Simple Valentine’s Day Mantel
I've never been a big decorator for Valentine's Day. I've only really decorated a little the last two years.
I guess after all the Christmas decorating, I'm ready for a holiday break.
This year I'm sharing a bit of Valentine's fun with a few of my blogging friends.
My mantel in the family room is a favorite spot in our home to decorate for the holidays.
After the Christmas holidays, I'm in need of a more serene atmosphere. That may be why I haven't decorated much for Valentine's Day in the past.
I decided to decorate my mantel for an everyday look.
Then I simply added a few handmade Valentine's Day touches that were next to nothing in cost and fairly quick to make.
My absolute favorite item to use on my mantel these days is my thrift store frame painted with ASCP and outfitted with a chalkboard.
During Christmas, it said Joy to the World.
Now it says a fitting phrase suitable for everyday.
I started out with just my faux boxwood planters, but then decided to get out my thrift store urn and fill it and a sterling baby cup of my son's (yes it needs a cleaning) with inexpensive carnations. Carnations are a wonderful flower to decorate with and cheap! They were only $4 a bouquet at my local grocery store. I purchased 2 bouquets and cut the stems short to fit in the vase to lay around the rim.
If you notice the painted box which holds photo Christmas cards from friends and family through the years, you'll see it has pink flowers on it. Also the Staffordshire dogs with little bows around the necks is pale pink. I thought the pink carnations would really bring that color out in a rather subtle way.
My simple heart coffee filter wreath with gold glittered cupid adds another neutral touch. I really tried to keep the Valentine's Day decor as neutral as possible with the exception of the flowers.
I left the laurel in place from Christmas on the chalkboard and just added the new words.
Simple cardstock cut hearts with glittered edges make up the quick garland. A little glitter makes this girl smile.
Rather simple, not fussy is what I prefer after Christmas.
Here's a little playing and learning to use my new 50mm/1.4 lens that my hubby gave me for Christmas. Love how the carnations in the little cup are front and center with the blurred background of the back urn.
I'd love for you to pin the above image. Thanks!

So Pretty Christy!!
I love all the pretty details on your valentine’s day mantel. Carnations are my go to flower because they seem to last so long and are fairly inexpensive.
Yes, glitter makes my heart go pitter patter too! Love the simple elegance! Love the chalkboard sign! Love the grocery store carnations! And I too love that 50 mm lens!
So happy to be sharing the Valentine’s Day love with you today!

Very cute details, Christy! I think my fave is the heart shaped coffee filter wreath. I love the scroll work on your mantel too that I spied behind your pretty glitter heart banner!
This is so pretty, Christy! I love that it isn’t so over-the-top. And the banner is just adorable.
