Guest Room Updates

The guest room has always been one of my favorite rooms in the house. I guess because it is home to a few of my favorite things.

Since our guest room is rarely used, it has become a bit of a junk room. Most days I just leave the door closed. This really does make me sad. I enjoy walking by and peeking in on occasion. It's my fault. I take the blame.

Do you have a room in your home that is just like this? A room that you'd love to conquer and make pretty?

Now is the perfect time to spruce up your space for the holidays and guests. Let me share with you my guest room updates.

1-Guest Bedroom Update by Our Southern Home 56.43

The main thing that honestly got me motivated to clean up the mess was my new window treatments. It has been over 10 years, and I'm just now putting them up.

This room is a bit hard to photograph. It is still a work in progress, but I'm officially motivated.

One of the smartest things I did in this room was add the neutral matelasse back when we first moved in. It will go with whatever colors I decide to add to the palette. Major pat on the back!

Don't get me wrong, I love color. That is evident in our home. This is a room that I can really have some fun in decor wise if I think smart. This is why I decided to go with a neutral window treatment, main bedding and walls.

I actually went with an ivory linen panel. This way I can change-up the pillows all I want with my neutral backdrop, and they will always work.

I am loving blue these days, and while the rest of our home isn't as conducive to it, this room is.

I've added a few blue Christmas accents in preparation for the holidays. I recently made the deer pallet art. It was very simple.

I just love these panels from Budget Blinds. They can either be hung with clips or the attached rod pocket. I picket up the hardware at my local home improvement center. The mister hung them for me.

This is why I want to bring out shades of blue in this room. This is hands down my favorite piece of furniture in our home. It's time for this room to get completed and the door to remain open.

It's an antique, hand-painted armoire from Germany. In our former house, it was in our master. In this house, it worked better in the guest room. It holds all of my knitting supplies.

Here is the other window in the room. Window treatments really help to finish a room. It softens the lines and makes it feel more cozy. Budget Binds will assist you with your window needs from window draperies to window shades and other window coverings.

They are great for hard to find sizes. I have 10 foot ceilings downstairs. This is virtually impossible to find in brick and mortar stores. I easily found the size that I needed to create even more room height by mounting them up higher above the windows. I have the 108″ length.

I'd say this room has a vintage eclectic French Country look.

I made these book pages trees a couple of years ago for our master bedroom, but loving them used in here. Thanks to these new window treatments, I'm adding holiday touches to this room for the first time!

The rug was from the dining room in our old house, but decided to use it in the guest room here. It was the inspiration for the black bed.

No photo would be complete these days without our precious, Bentley. It's like he has a mission to be on the blog!

The panels came shipped neatly. I did iron each of them before hanging. They ironed beautifully.

I love the subtle linen texture. They have the exact light and airy look that I wanted. The color is perfect for the room.

The workmanship and material are very high-end without the steep price-tag. These are lined with a rod pocket at the top. They do offer various other top designs like grommets.

This room is a work in progress. Here are a few things in the works:

  • Red and white ticking euro shams will be made with ruffles for that French Farmhouse style. I've already purchased the fabric!
  • A dust ruffle will be added
  • Throw pillows for everyday use will be added
  • 2 dark mahogany night stands will be receiving a new paint treatment.
  • A few more additions to the walls.
  • A throw blanket or quilt for the foot of the bed
  • A slip cover for the animal print chair cushion
