Today I am sharing my bar stool makeover with Annie Sloan Chalk Paints.

This month's Themed Furniture Makeover Day is Chairs!

This bar stool used to be in my elementary school classroom in my former life as a school teacher.

It has been in our playroom for quite sometime now…looking out of place with the light stained wood.

New painted furniture theme each month!

Be sure to check out the link below for all the other fabulous “chairs” in today's tour. These ladies have serious talent!

There is a sticker underneath the seat. I purchased it at K-Mart all those years ago. It is very sturdy.

Its home is by the pool table upstairs. It's great for sitting in between playing and to place your drink atop when it's your turn.

I painted 3 coats of Coco by Annie Sloan Chalk Paint.

Those rungs can be a pain to paint. I find it easier to use a flat artist brush for more control. My medium brush pictured here is just too bulky for it.

I let the base coat dry thoroughly and taped off the stripes. You are well aware of my love affair with ticking or grain sack stripes. I did this so quickly. If you notice I did them off-center. Yeah…I was lazy. I didn't want to do all the measuring to get it centered. I just eyed the stripes. The stripes are Old White.

Next I created a custom blend of Burgundy and Primer Red for my stencil. Only a tiny amount is needed.

Apply the paint with a stencil brush by pouncing up and down. Hold the stencil in place with spray stencil adhesive or tape. You'll notice I applied the stencil off-center as well.

Not much time involved and for very little money since all of the paint I had on hand.

I did a bit of distressing on the edges and across the stripes.

It will definitely look like it fits the billiard area of the upstairs bonus room now.

I applied 1 coat of clear wax to the base. The top got 3 coats. Then I buffed to a slight sheen with my  buffing brush.

Very simple decorative touches can really add character.

  6. What a great makeover for this stool. It was definitely boring before and now it has character.

I saw several of these at Goodwill a few weeks ago and I’m still regretting not buying them. It seems like there’s always a place in a home where a stool can be used.

I love hearing from you!
