Beginner Upholstery Projects

Thanks for sharing!

I love a good DIY challenge and upholstery can be one of them! Not today!!! I asked several of my blogging friends to share their favorite simple upholstery projects that even the beginner can tackle. Some range from the very beginner to the advanced beginner. Just take you time! Remember measure twice, cut once!

I have them all here for you in one convenient location. Just click the link and it will take you to the instructions.

I have 2 thrift store chairs and an ottoman that I have big plans for the upstairs sitting area found HERE. They will receive either an upholstery or slipcover makeover. They are projects I hope to accomplish this summer. Hopefully the next few projects here will inspire you to perhaps challenge yourself!

  1. These are such beautiful projects! I have so old 1970s orange (blech!) folding chairs that I’m now very tempted to give a face lift when we break them out for overflow guests for cookouts. And the French grain sack cane chair is gorgeous!

  2. All of these make over’s are wonderful. I have been trying to talk myself into reupholstering an ancient Lazy Boy Rocker Recliner (they just do not make them this well now a days). My first problem is affording the fabric (if you’re going to do all that work, use a durable fabric) and I just can’t come up with it yet. I also need thin foam that the kitty kats have shredded getting into the hole in the back of it….. lol. It is a real mess, but I just can not validate dumping it for a new one. And I am thinking that if I use the patio or outdoor fabric, it will be good without extra stuff on the back of it. I tried ordering what I thought was upholstery batting a bit ago and it was a terrific disappointment to me. And I hate to shop cause of my bad back….. but I recommend others to do it and thinking I will have to as well.

  3. I am so intimidated by reupholstering!! I’ve got the chair, I’ve got the fabric and I’m close to calling someone else to do it. I guess it’s because I thing it needs extra padding and internal surgery. I can sew — I’m a whiz at doing window treatments, valences, cornices, etc. but hand me a chair to reupholster and I panic!! I’ll have to go through all of the ladies suggestions. Perhaps I can find the courage.

    1. Marisa, you sound like me!!! Maybe we can get through it together! I think I’m going to try first with inexpensive fabric!! You should like you are thinking about a big chair project!!! XXOO Christy

  4. I just love all of these projects Christy!! I would never call myself an upholsterer but the ottoman was definitely do-able! Thanks for sharing all these fabulous projects and mine too! 🙂
