Decorating Challenge {Month 3}

Thanks for sharing!

It is hard to believe that today is Month 3 in our 3 month Decorating Challenge: Using What You Have

If you are new to the challenge, here are all the details. I asked a few of my blogging pals to join me for a three month challenge. We were to pick one space and decorate it in a new way each month for three months. We could only use what we had. Shopping your home to decorate is a cost effective way to make your home feel fresh without spending a dime!

When I do this, I go around my home with a basket collecting items that might work in a new vignette. Basically you are rearranging your home decor items. It is so easy to keep things the same old way. I know, I've been guilty of it. At some point you realize that you have great things, and really don't need more. Just shop your home to inspire your space.

Here is Month 1. I love pink and took the month of February as a sign to use it. I have so many wonderful colors in this chest that just about any color would work. Carnations are a favorite flower. They are inexpensive and last forever!

Month 2 I decided to pull blues….going a bit more spring. Whole Foods always has beautiful hydrangeas.  Occasionally they have the heirloom variety, and they last forever and dry great. These are not, but lasted about 6 days. Just be sure to frequently change out the water.

This month I decided to borrow the faux lavender that I purchased after Christmas from Hobby Lobby 1/2 price off from a white pitcher in the kitchen. They frequently run their floral 1/2 price. I don't usually buy a lot of faux flowers to use like this, but they look so real.

The basket was a thrift store find last summer. I love the shape…very French Country.

I promised last month that I was going to shop my house for different lamps. This pair is from the guest bedroom. I purchased them at a going out of business sale quite a few years ago. I really want to replace the shades with a more relaxed shade. I'm really liking them here for a change. I'll keep you posted on the shades.

Notice all the detail. The narrowness makes them a versatile choice for using in multiple areas of your home.

I lined the basket with a couple of napkins so you wouldn't see the stems. It's creates a neater look.

I went rather clean and simple this month. The basket of lavender was really all that was needed. I decided not to clutter it up. I tried, but ended up editing to this final look. When in doubt, less is more.
