DIY No Sew Lamp Shade

Thanks for sharing!

I hope all the mothers out there had a happy Mother's Day! I sure did. We celebrated with a nice cook out in our backyard. The weather was just beautiful!

I am so excited to be joining the monthly No-Sew group. I love to sew, but sometimes it's nice to go No-Sew!

A few years ago, I purchased a brass lamp at a thrift store which was the perfect size for the porch. I spray painted it white and  used an inexpensive big box store lamp shade with intentions of dressing it up. Fast forward and that lamp shade now looks nasty. It wasn't intended for outdoor use. Now, I'm finally doing something about it. Here is my DIY No-Sew Lamp Shade with outdoor fabric.

I purchased this partial bolt of outdoor cheetah print fabric dirt cheap on eBay a few years back. I've used for many projects. I cut strips 1 inch wide and 35 inches long. While you can simply measure with a ruler, draw a chalk line and cut with scissors; it is much faster to use a self healing cutting mat, clear ruler  and cut it with a circular blade along the edge of the clear ruler. Makes the job oh so fast! By the way my new fabric scissors pictured above are fantastic!!!

Do you notice the green yarn? This shade just had 2 round hoops….no supports going vertically that connect the 2. So when I ripped the shade off, I was left with 2 circles not connected. With the top hoop connected to the top of the lamp, I used the yarn to hold the bottom hoop in place. I adjusted the yarn until it formed the perfect lamp shape. Now I can loop my fabric strips over the 2 hoops and tie off at the bottom. Once I had all the fabric in place. I removed the green yarn and discarded.

If you notice in the previous picture, the tassels were much longer. I went along the edge and trimmed them a bit shorter. Nothing is perfect here. It is meant to look relaxed.

It is now on this painted buffet table on the screened porch. I love that it is fun, simple and unique. You could easily change this up with the seasons. It would be a fun shade in a teen bedroom as well.
