I don't decorate a lot for Valentine's Day. After all of the fall, Halloween, Thanksgiving and Christmas decorating, I'm kind of ready for a clean look. My Valentine's decor is rather subdued and neutral to blend in with my everyday decor.
I've shared with you before my love of Transfer Artist Paper. This stuff has changed my life….for crafting and DIY that is! Today I'm sharing how I made this Lovebirds Je t'aime (Love) easy and quick iron on transfer for framed art.
Materials Needed
- Transfer Artist Paper
- canvas drop cloth
- 8×10 frame of your choice
- iron
- scissors
- ink jet printer
- ruler
The How-to
- Download and save the provided graphic below or use your own.
- Print on TAP following the directions on the package. You will print on the white side and iron on the blue side. Trim the print out.
- Use the wood backing part of the frame to trace and cut your piece of drop cloth. HINT: Wash, dry and iron your drop cloth first. It will be much softer to work with and won't look so stiff.
- Using a ruler position the cut out upside down on the cut out piece of drop cloth. Iron on according to the package instructions. Let cool and insert into your frame!
Tips
- If you are printing on words on your design……you must print the project in REVERSE!!!! That way when you iron it on, it will be facing the correct direction. Trust me…..I've forgotten several times. You won't be happy is you don't double check yourself!
- DO NOT use steam on your iron
- That blue paper will be HOT! Remove it with tweezers. It removes very easily.
I love the vintage feel to this project. I downloaded the graphic from The Graphics Fairy. Then I typed the French saying for I love you to create subtle art for Valentine's Day. You could really leave it up beyond the holiday.
I bought the frame back in November for 1/2 off at Hobby Lobby. The glass is behind the drop cloth art.
Even the little white pitcher has a heart shape on it. I purchased it on clearance at HomeGoods last year.
Don't tell anyone, but that lavender is fake! It looks so real. I buy it up when Hobby Lobby runs their floral 1/2 price!
This is what the graphic looks like with the words in reverse for iron on transfer printing. DON't use this image. It has the watermark. Go to this LINK to save the unwatermarked image to make your own copy.
Do you not have time for a project? Do you just want to print the image for a frame? You can do that, too! Just CLICK HERE. It will take you to the image that is saved as a pdf. It will print as an 8×10 on an 8-1/2 x 11 inch sheet of paper. Then you will trim it to fit in the 8×10 frame. I highly recommend uploading it to a place like Staples and having them print it for around 45 cents. It will be printed on premium paper and will look so much better for display!
Please PIN the above image and share with your friends!

You know the French teacher in me LOVES this one…so pretty, too! I’m pinning! Hugs…Debbie
How pretty! I’m like you Christy and don’t decorate much for Valentine’s Day. I bought some TAP paper months ago and haven’t opened the package. This has inspired me to give it a try! Pinning to share and refer back to for your excellent step-by-step instructions.
Thanks so much! Have you tried the TAP paper yet? You are going to love it!
It’s so pretty Christy! Pinning!
Ooooh – J’adore!!
What a great DIY – pinning!!
Thanks so much!
Ooh – this is so adorable, Christy! I just love the vintage vibe of the print. I love the frame that you have it displayed in too.
