Enchanting String Lights Centerpiece

Thanks for sharing!

Crickets chirping…….

Fireflies aglow……

Nice conversations….

Yummy food and drink make for a perfect evening on the screened porch.

What creates the perfect ambiance is the addition of string lights. I have them strung in a cascading way  on the interior of the porch. This allows them to also be enjoyed while on the patio area. Solar string lights are perfect strung on small shrubs in pots when a power source is not easily accessible.

You can even purchase dainty battery operated lights that are handy when planing a centerpiece.

Today I'm sharing how I created my Enchanting String Lights Centerpiece with a few simple items all found at your local craft store.

I adore collaborating with Taylor over at Porch.com. Porch is your go to spot for home improvement needs and inspiration. My last collaboration for their blog was my thrift store French Country End Table.

Decorating with string lights: Moss Sphere Tutorial with Our Southern Home

The lights cascading in loops have been there about 4 years and work perfectly to this day! They put off a beautiful light at night. We never turn on the overhead lighting! These give us all the light we need when enjoying the porch. A few candles complete the mood.

The centerpiece in the first photo was made with the following items. Of course I improvised throughout the process and added a couple more items as I went along.

That's kind of how my creative process works.

Material needed for this centerpiece: (most of this I had on hand)

  • 3 larger grapevine spheres
  • 1 smaller grapevine sphere
  • sheet moss
  • Spanish moss
  • floral wire
  • 1 strand of dainty wired battery operated lights and batteries( 2 pictured, but only needed 1)
  • plastic grocery bags
  • scissors
  • thrift store basket tray or similar (optional)
  • small Mason jar
  • fresh or artificial flowers

This part was an afterthought, but worked fabulously. I needed to stuff the spheres with something so that I only had to have the moss on the outer edges. No sense in spending money on stuffing the entire sphere with moss. You could even use newspaper.

Then cut small sections of the green sheet moss and work into the open spaces. To hide any open spots were bags may show, fill in with Spanish moss.

Once complete. Wire the 3 larger spheres together with floral wire from the center so not seen.

Wire the smaller sphere to the top.

You can cheat a bit. Areas on the bottom and interior sides  don't need to be done.

Then wire 1 strand of the sweet little lights around the wired spheres.

I then placed the arrangement on top of a basket tray that I already had. It fit perfectly.

In the open spots around the bottom, I placed 3 small Mason jars.

Just fill them with water and insert the flowers of your choice.

Voila! I now have a simple natural looking centerpiece. With the tray underneath it, it becomes portable.

The wires are dainty and have a bend to them so you can mold them to the centerpiece.

It can essentially be used all year-long with seasonal flowers. Even mini pumpkins would be precious in lieu of the mason jars.

Would you believe that these daisies from the grocery store are over a week old! So worth the small amount of money. Change the water everyday or two for longer lasting blooms.

The next couple of photos were taken at dusk so you could better see the lights.
