Furniture Shopping Trip Getaway

Thanks for sharing!

Good morning to all of my amazing Decorating Addicted friends. I adore the home decorating process with a passion!

Dreaming, getting inspiration from magazines and across the web, visiting stores and actually implementing those ideas!

Decorating our home and assisting clients with their homes and staging gives me great joy.

I'm squealing with delight as I am planning our Furniture Shopping Trip Getaway to High Point, NC…..you know The Home Furnishings Capital of the World™.

I thought I'd share with you the details so you can plan your trip as well. It's perfect for a romantic getaway or with a group of girls.

My planning started with a visit to the website, High Point Convention & Visitors Bureau.  The website is a wealth of information. If you look at the bottom of the site, you can click a button that says CONTACT. Here you can request a Furniture Shopping Packet be mailed to your home. You can also email and call them directly to discuss your trip. They are so friendly and helpful. Seriously you can search accommodations, dining, things to do and furniture shopping tips all from their website!

Furniture Shopping Trip Getaway

I had no idea that there are over 50 furniture stores and outlets, offering furniture, rugs, lighting, accessories and more! I can't wait!!

We drove through High Point over 20 years ago so I am looking forward to revisiting.

If you are going for a getaway, you need a place to stay. Since it is just myself and the mister going, I wanted to find a special place.

I ended up going with J.H Adams Inn. You can find the link to this one and others by visiting HighPoint.org

JH Adams Inn is where we are staying for our furniture shopping trip to High Point, NC Furniture Shopping Trip Getaway)

It's on the Historic Registry and looks beautiful! It has an on-site restaurant which was appealing to us. We plan to eat there one evening. There are also a few breweries that we'd like to visit as well! We haven't had a getaway with just us in quite a while. We always travel with our kiddos.

We plan to spend our days touring furniture showrooms and dining at local pubs and restaurants. I love to contribute to local owned businesses whether it is at home or on the road.

Back to the main reason of the trip…..furniture shopping!

There are services that can pair you with a preferred designer while there. This allows you access to the trade-only showrooms as well as assist you with navigating the shopping area to make the most of your time there.

Check out the design services in action at the High Point Regional Visitors  Center.

Upon arrival, we plan to stop by the High Point Regional Visitors Center. They have a state-of-the-art center complete with interactive kiosks to further explore what High Point has to offer. At the kiosks, we will be able to search furniture styles, manufacturers and products to lay out exactly where we should visit.

I am seriously going to be like a kid in a candy shop.

Christmas home tour from Our Southern Home with French Farmhouse style. Lots of DIY ideas. High style on a budget!

This is our dining room at Christmas. I absolutely adore our dining room suit. It's about 15 years old. We purchased it to fit our last house. It's really not the best size for the room. We've decided to sell it because we inherited an enormous 100+ year old armoire that is parked in our garage waiting on me to restore it. It will go in the space where the china cabinet currently is located. My plan is to get a casually elegant round farm styled table and 6 chairs. We rarely use the dining room except for special occasions. It's basically a beautiful, wasted space. I plan to use the space as my new home office that can easily be converted to dining as needed. It will give me a nice window to look out while I work away on my website,  real estate deals and staging/decorating work.

We also plan to look at new couch or sectional options while in High Point. I love the new white and neutral furniture options. It's perfect for me as I like to change-up looks. It is so simple and affordable to change out pillows and throws when you have a neutral backdrop. While I don't think I will go white, I do hope to go with something lighter and more neutral.

Lastly, I really want to explore furniture for our front porch. I am really wanting weathered, gray resin rockers and a porch swing. The 2 chairs on the end actually belong to the back screened porch dining table. This is our porch's most recent photo from the holidays. Notice our newly painted blue ceiling. This will probably be my priority and our next purchase.

Here are a few tips to make the most of your stay!

  • Pack comfortable shoes and clothes. You will be doing a lot of walking.
  • Take photos of the areas of your home that you are interested in redecorating. Simply snap some cell phone pictures before leaving.
  • If you don't have them, stop by the paint store and pick up paint chips of your room color or the color you'd like to use. If you have the paint, paint a swatch on a piece of scrap wood or a small paint stick.
  • Bring samples of any existing fabrics you plan to use.
  • Bring room/area measurements.
  • Have a budget in mind.
  • Do a little pre-shopping at home prior to the trip so you will have an idea about pricing.
  • Bring a notebook, tape measure, pen, and camera/cell phone camera.
  • Plan to stay more than 1 day…too much fabulousness to see!
  • If ordering, be prepared to make a deposit.
