Master Bedroom Update {Hanging Plates}

Thanks for sharing!

Earlier this week, I shared with you how I updated our bedside lamps with inexpensive shades HERE.

Today I'd like to show you how I jazzed up the wall over the bed with inexpensive plates from HomeGoods and EBay.

Plates used as wall art really add impact!

For the longest time there was nothing over the poor headboard.  About 3 years ago, I added the oil painting off of EBAY for less than $12!!!!  You can find the store HERE.  They do come from Hong Kong and China.  Items are shipped rolled in a hard cylinder.  Shipping may seem high, but depending on what you pay for your actual piece, it really is still a great deal!  It does take a couple of weeks to receive.  I just take mine to a local framer.  They stretch, mount and frame them.  I have purchased 5 of these so far……very pleased!

Here is the before with the old shades and no plates!

The transferware plates were purchased from EBay.  The soft green plates were from HomeGoods.  I find it so much easier to play around with the design on the floor.  I take a cell phone picture of it so I can easily refer back to it while hanging.  I then take measurements on the floor and get busy!

This was my first experience using these adhesive disks for plate hanging.  They are inexpensive.  You can find them online in different sizes .   Just click this link Flatiron Disc Invisible Plate Hanger, 2-Inch.  Once you get there you can look for the appropriate sized disk.  The 2″ disk was used on the green plates.

The directions are on the packaging.  You simply wet the backside and let it sit for several minutes.  You must do this so it will get very sticky!

I marked the center of the backside of each plate with a piece of tape.  You need to position correctly!  These are so sturdy once you let them set up overnight or in my case several days!

I like these because I didn't want the traditional wire hangers to show.  I wanted a clean look.  It is very important to position carefully and in the same spot for each plate so hanging will be a breeze!  If you are wondering, they do not damage the pate.  To remove just simply soak in warm water and the adhesive dissolves.  I know because I had to redo one!

The wall color is a Benjamin Moore historical color  Quincy Tan- HC25 in flat.  I love this soft tan color.  It goes with everything!

Small simple updates do make a big impact.  New lamp shades from HomeGoods and plates really complete this area!  What do you think?

Hanging the plates is really not that difficult, just a bit time consuming….especially when installing while standing on a bed!

HomeGoods is an excellent source for lamps, lamp shades and plates.  The green plates were only $4.99 each.  I had been wanting brown transferware for this gallery wall.  I looked, but just couldn't find anything.  EBay is a good source for those hard to find items.  The center plate is an antique, but the others were new.

Plates on the wall are a personal preference.  Some folks think that they should only grace the walls of kitchens and dining rooms.  I say whatever you like goes for your home!

  3. I love plates on the wall. I’ve hung them in foyer, hallway, bedroom, and even the powder room (in addition, of course, to kitchen & dining room). For us southern gals, plates on the wall are as common as grits or sweet tea!!!!!!!!
