Rustic and Elegant Christmas Entry

I am so looking forward to the weekend! We are expecting our coolest temps yet….the 60s! I can't wait.

I am not hosting Thanksgiving this year so I am getting started on my Christmas decorating early so I can enjoy the holidays.

I've started with my……

Rustic & Elegant Christmas Entry

Our foyer is open on all four walls so I use this painted chest like a foyer entry. It's the first area that guests see as they walk through the foyer into our family room. It's a favorite spot to decorate and I always change it up with the seasons.

I am so fortunate that I have a Hobby Lobby in our relatively small town. My hubby may not see that as a plus. Wink, wink!

I recently went and spent a lot of time checking out all the aisles of Christmas decorating goodness. My goal was to decorate my entry space with $100 or less! I ended up spending $98.38 before taxes. I got a lot! Everything that I purchased was on sale except the candle. Win, win!

Here is a breakdown if you are curious. All prices are the sale prices:

  • Lantern $22.49
  • Candle $10.99
  • Floral Pics for 3 $14.97
  • Pom-Pom Runner $9.99
  • JOY word cut-out $7.49
  • 1 spool of ribbon $4.99
  • Deer $19.99
  • 3 snowflake ornaments $7.47

This gorgeous lantern was not with the Christmas decor so do not pass by the everyday decor when planning your Christmas. I'll get everyday use out of that lantern beyond the holidays.

Hobby Lobby has a huge selection of seasonal floral. Not only is it in the Christmas area, but in the floral department as well. I came across these amazing seasonal picks in with the Christmas. Look at them carefully. They are so rustic with the evergreens and cotton mixed in. They so go with that fabulous rustic, farmhouse vibe that is on trend these days! While they are with the Christmas decor, I can use them all winter. They were the springboard for the look I was after.

I purchased a total of 3 evergreen & cotton floral picks. They are rather full and lush. I plan to go back to Hobby Lobby and pick up more to carry the look across the room to our mantel.

I took two of the pics and put them end to end like in this photo. Simply use floral wire to join them together. I love doing this because it doesn't damage the picks. I can easily remove the wire and reuse them in other ways. I plan to do that after Christmas and use them in a white pitcher all winter until I start to decorate for spring.

To cover the wire in the center, make a bow. I am in love with this ribbon. It is so sweet and really goes with the Rustic & Elegant theme that I'm doing this year. It's amazing how a simple ribbon can change the look of your holiday decor! I could easily change the look with a plaid ribbon.

I used wire to attach it to the top of the mirror.

Since the chest is so decoratively painted with lots of colors, I chose to go neutral and under-stated for the tabletop decor. This is perhaps my favorite look of all the many years that we have owned this chest. My hubby gave it to me as a gift probably 15+ years ago. It followed us here from our old house.

This rustic, resin deer is so elegant looking. I purchased the lying down deer to go with the height of this lantern. There is another one that goes with the set that is standing. I may just have to back and buy the standing deer at Hobby Lobby while it is on sale.

To carry the greenery and ribbon to the tabletop from the floral on top of the mirror, I purchased a third greenery & cotton pick. I've never done this before, but I love how it turned out! Instead of hiding the unattractive stem that I would have normally hidden or tucked out of sight, I wrapped the stem in the same ribbon and tied a bow. Makes it look like a little bouquet. I love it!

This deer and bouquet sits atop of one of my many thrift store silver trays. The tray left in a more tarnished state really goes with my rustic, elegant and vintage style.

I then added a pair of silver thrift store candlesticks that I had in my candle cabinet.

The gorgeous distressed and farmhouse looking lantern gives a lighter and airy look to the heavy looking chest.

Everything rests atop of this glitzy runner with pom-pom fringe from Hobby Lobby as well. I passed by it several passes down that aisle as I was searching for a new burlap runner. When I decided to add those sparkly snowflakes, I immediately went back to it! It's perfect and adds a whimsical touch to the space. I can use the runner all winter as well with its neutral state.

The snowflakes are found with the ornaments. They are magical! They are very sturdy and wrapped with what looks like twine and a metallic thread. The center has a clear gemstone. I immediately purchased three when I saw them. I knew that they would look lovely hanging from the top of the mirror. They give a bit of movement to the mirror. Gorgeous in the reflection. I simply hung them from the mirror with clear fishing line.
