Simple Toile Pillow
**This is a sponsored post for Online Fabric Store. I was compensated for this post. All opinions are my own. My new fabrics are fabulous!!**
I have a treat for you today! My group of blogging friends has a pillow palooza going on this week + your chance to win one of two $100 gift cards to order your own fabrics and supplies!!!
I love toile fabrics and decided on this pattern and a large 20 x 20 inch down pillow form.
I used my beginner level Envelope Pillow Tutorial which also used Online Fabric Store fabrics!
I needed a large pillow for the leather bergere chair in the family room. I've been using this furniture and the same pillows for a little over 10 years now…..womp womp!!!! I know this is unheard of for a blogger….not changing constantly.
When you love something, I think it's ok for it to stick around.
The seating in this room is about 20 years old! With the exception of the leather chair, all have been reupholstered.
When you spend wisely on the best you can afford in terms of your seating,
they should last you a lifetime!
The easiest thing to do is change out the pillows. That's what my mission is for our family room.
I'd like to add 2 more pillows just like this one on the solid couch and some sort of buffalo check for the patterned loveseat.
New pillows always = affordable update
I used this 20 x 20 inch down pillow form for $13.65.
1 yard of Covington Bosporus in Antique Red for $18.30 per yard.
You can find all the other supplies that I used along with the tutorial HERE.
Now, I'm no fancy seamstress. I can sew a straight line. I am pretty much self taught….books and YouTube.
If just making one, you can easily do in a couple of hours or less.
If you are making the same sized pillows in multiples, it's so easy to crank them out assembly line style. When I have multiples I divide the process into a couple of days.
1. Cut our all your pieces first one day.
2. Iron all pieces the same day as cutting.
3. On a new day…… If making an envelope pillow, stitch up the back seam on all pieces.
4. Pin all pieces together
5. Sew
6. Stuff with pillow and relax!
When working with a toile you want to center the pillow front on the fabric. I have a 20″ pillow form so I measured the 20×20 and marked on the fabric to cut out the front. The back really doesn't matter. It's the envelope part. You would always have it towards the back anyway.
Here is the back. The envelope pillow will allow me to quickly change pillow covers.
This is my absolute favorite toile pattern!
It has so many beautiful colors to pull from for additional coordinating fabrics. I hope to add a few buffalo checked pillows as well.
If you notice here, I changed out the throw for a lighter look. I think I'll stick with this.
If you noticed, I didn't add trim. These pillows are used a lot!!! I wanted to create a more casual, relaxed look.
I'm looking forward to giving our family room a little mini-makeover with changing out the pillows.

Wish I’d discovered the toile pillow idea before buying a $40 pillow cover from a major home decor retailer. I like the toile much better!
Thanks so very much! I hope you give it a try!
I have bought this exact material from OLF and can’t wait to make the pillows!!!!
Have fun!!! Love the fabric, too!!!
So ecstatic to come across this post while scrolling through my FB feeds this morning! I am new to sewing and starting out with making pillows! Just shopped at the local fabric store to browse the cost of materials. Hoping to put the new sewing machine I got for Christmas three years ago to its first use soon! 🙂
Have fun! You will love learning to sew!
I really like the Hammond Black Embroidered and the Bromley Teal Velvet pillows from the OnlineFabricStore.
However, my favorite is the Covington Bosporus Fabric that you used on your pillow. It is beautiful :-).
I have a Lumbar Pillow in the Flax version of the same fabric.
Thank you for the opportunity and God Bless You 🙂
That is a beautiful option! Have a great weekend!
Excellent choice of fabric, Christy. I love the worn edges and feel to your pillow. I love your taste.
Thanks for making me smile today.
Happily pinning.
xoxo
Thanks so much, Meegan! Have a great weekend!
Love toile! it’s so beautiful in all of its forms! I have a smaller print that I bought last winter and I just purchased a new sewing machine, so I’m looking forward to creating some new pillow covers this season 🙂
Thanks! I warn you…pillow making is addictive. When I made my first one this spring, I was so impressed with myself that I couldn’t wait to make more. LOL! Have fun!!! ~Christy
Well, you know I love that fabric because I have it in my living room! Great tutorial and awesome job centering that fabric pattern!
That is such a pretty fabric! I love how it looks really old and worn.
Quinn Cream Floral pillow is my favorite
Christy, Love you pillow, that print is one of my favorites also. I just ordered new fabric from OFS to make drapes for my great room. Just finished dining room drapes with fabric I ordered from OFS. Would love one of those gift certificate as I will be ordering fabric from them for my bedroom.
What a beautiful fabric! So vintage and classic looking. Your pillow turned out great Christy!
Thanks so much, Beth!
