Angels Rejoice Mantle {Family Room}

Thanks for sharing!

It's beginning to look a lot like Christmas here at Our Southern Home!  It's the most wonderful time of the year!  This is my very first Christmas post featuring our home.  I'd like to start with our family room mantle.  I hope you enjoy~

Here is a view from the balcony above.

The stocking are family heirlooms lovingly made by my mother-in-law.  You can find them featured in my Christmas stocking idea post from a few weeks ago.

I found these beautiful metal angels at an after Christmas sale 9 years ago at Belk.  I have been smitten ever since!

Notice the oh so chic distressing.

This mantle is completely artificial.  I start out by using a simple, plain 6 foot garland as a base.  I then fill in with lush, high quality picks making sure I balance the sides as I go.  This year I added the trailing greenery with berries.  I am very happy with the effect of it spilling over the mantle.

My rejoice bunting is new this year.  I will have a tutorial post up later this week.  It is a great project for the kids to help with.  My 13 year old daughter took care of the painting glue and glittering of the letters.  Once that was complete, it went fairly quickly (a DVR episode of Grey's Anatomy playing in the background).

UPDATE:::  Rejoice Bunting Tutorial is now up!

I really appreciate you stopping by to take a look at just the first of many Christmas posts to come!!
I'd love for you to join me on Our Southern Home's journey. Ways to follow are on the sidebar. The blog is getting a face lift. You may notice changes soon! Have a blessed week~

  2. What a lovely mantel! I love your fireplace with the herringbone detail. You’ve decorated it perfectly for the season. Thanks for sharing it at our Home for the Holidays link party.

  3. Your mantle and your decorations on it are fabulous! And I am also crazy about bringing old lamps back to life! LOL! Great selection from GW and the paint looks made for it. I’m your newest follower on Linky and hope you visit and follow me, too. Hey, it’s Christmas, time to drop major hints about that Silhouette! 🙂

    Merry Christmas,
    Helen

  4. Beautiful job Christy! I do the same with my mantel with the garland and picks. Your angels are great- I’d treasure those too! I love your rejoice bunting. That reminded me of a velvet covered project I created along with my daughter when she was close to your daughters age. It had a huge gold glittery “Merry Christmas” on it that we created. I still have it in storage!
Your room looks lovely and I love your tree!

    1. Thanks so much, Liz! I cherish all of those projects that my kids have helped on. I love the look of a fresh mantle, but it would be too complicated to have to keep refreshing it especially with the frequency that we use the real wood fireplace. Merry Christmas!

  5. Christy, your mantel is so pretty! I love how you layered your greenery and let it drape over the mantel. All of the accents are wonderful. I’m excited to see more!

I love hearing from you!
