Fab Five Friday #3

Thanks for sharing!

I'm not sure what it is about summer, but I become a reading crazy woman! I devour it…..on the porch, on the beach, riding in the car, walking, on the couch and into the night in bed.

For a while, I told myself I was just too tired to read. Why did I leave it behind for so long? I asked for a Kindle for Mother's Day and BAM! I became obsessed again!

Today for this 3rd edition of Fab Five Friday, I'm sharing my recent favorite reads!

I'm going to cheat a little and share 10! This is how I'm justifying the increase…..I'm going to share 5 favorites that I've read and 5 favorites that I've listened to while walking.

Let me start by sharing how I read and listen! (This post contains affiliate links)

I walk 3-4 miles everyday! The only way that I get to listen to my Audible book is if I walk for exercise.  It's a deal that I made with myself, and I tell you…..it makes you walk! Listening to books being read to you is such a different experience. It's a great addiction to have. I will tell you that Bently, our 4 year-old Westie, does not let me get away with NOT doing the daily walk. He will literally start barking at me in the morning and nipping at my feet until we go. It's quite funny!

Here are my five favorite recent books that I have listened to on my walks!

Girl, Wash Your Face

I honestly don't read a lot of self-help or motivational books, but this one caught my attention in that the author is a blogger like me (on a much larger scale). The book is read by the author, Rachel. This is truly a must listen. She is quite the story-teller while giving us the tools to live our best life. I recommend for all!

Something in the Water

I discovered Reese Witherspoon's book club through the Audible app. This one is really good. I love suspense, thriller, mystery stories! This is the story of a newly married British couple on a dream honeymoon. They make a life changing discovery that changes their lives forever!

The Couple Next Door

A couple with a new baby makes a terrible mistake! Lots of twists and turns with this page-turner!

The Inn at Eagle Point

Another thing that I love to read are series! I am a sucker for a great series that involves family and a love story! I started reading this series before Hallmark started the TV series. The Inn at Eagle Point is Book 1 in the series. It's a simple, easy read and I just love it! I have now read the series through book 8! You can find the entire list of the 12 books HERE.

Next Year in Havana

This is another Reese book read! It's a different choice for me, but I felt compelled to read something different. This is historical fiction that follows 1950s Cuba to present day spanning generations. I am really enjoying the listen, and I'm about 1/2 way finished.

Now onto the Fab Five that I have either read on my Kindle or through the library! I'll start with what I'm currently reading because I can't put it down!

My Sister's Grave

I discovered this book on my Kindle with an ad that said it was FREE! Well, I couldn't turn that down! Evidently with a Prime membership, there are occasionally free books. OMG! It is so good! It is a crime mystery that I love and a series! The lead is a female detective working on the side to solve the 20 year old murder of her sister. It brings her back home and to the possible town involvement. It is currently a 6 book series that you can find HERE.

Summer Girls

Want a great beach read and it's a series!!! I love this 5 book series about 3 sisters and their amazing grandmother. The sisters are very different with the family beach home bringing them together. You can find the complete series HERE.

Confessions of a Domestic Failure

My kids are in college, but I still enjoyed this easy read about a new mom giving up her career to stay home with her daughter. It's humerous and a fun adventure to finding herself!

The Family Next Door

I actually checked out this book from the library when I went to renew my card. You have to read this because I forgot to add it to my Goodreads library, and it took me about an hour of Googling to find the title so I could share! LOL! Seriously, it's a great read about small-town secrets with twists and turns with the lives of the families in this close-knit neighborhood. Can't say too much or I'll give things away! I couldn't put this one down.

The Light We Lost

Here is another Reese pick. I am thoroughly enjoying her picks because they are typically something that I have not heard of yet. She has a team I am sure that scours books and presents her with the best to select from. It's a modern-day romance, but not in a sappy, cheesy way. It's very well-written. Starts when the couple meets in college and goes through her marriage and life.

I'd love to hear what you are reading. I am always looking for new books! Please share in the comments.

  1. Hi Christy,
I’ve been reading a lot too and tried Kindle and audiobooks but it feels different turning every page of a real book, so I got back to reading and more reading. I am currently reading AM Homes’ This Book Will Save Your Life.
    Cheers,
    Jessica

  2. I love to read too, unfortunately I had trouble viewing your picks due to all the ads covering them. They kept popping up and covering your content. I don’t begrudge anyone from making money on their blogs, but ads are so very annoying when they cover content. Is there a way to have them on the side where I don’t have to see them unless I want to?

I love hearing from you!
