Master Bedroom {Lamp Update}

Thanks for sharing!

I hope everyone had a wonderful weekend!

We spent the weekend in Helen, Georgia.  I'll share a bit about that trip later this week!

Do you ever get tired of your decor, but you don't want to break the bank with updates?  I sure do!  I really do try to only buy things that will last the long haul and that have a classic quality.

A few years ago, we really needed new lamps for our master bedroom.  We had shiny brass candlestick lamps.  Blah, blah, blah!  I wish I had known about chalk paint back then! I purchased these lamps from Lowe's   They are from the Biltmore House Collection.  I loved the lamps, but not the shades.  I had every intention of immediately replacing the shades.  Several years later, the same blingy shades were there.

They were just not the look I was going for!

Too many sequins, too much shine…..

I happened to be on one of my frequent strolls through HomeGoods.  I came across these lovely simple, linen shades for $12.99 each.  I am very pleased with the new lighter look!

What do you think?  Do you prefer the new shade?

I really love the lamps now!

  1. Christy, isn’t it amazing just a tweak of lamp shades would make such a big difference? I like the new look. We have the same 4 poster bed..never thought about using a round table as a night stand..looks like it gives you a lot more room to put stuff. The chest you have on the round table..Kirklands? I one like that too but mine is all brown.did you add the gold to yours or buy it that way? I keep coasters in mine in the living room for people to use. I will not allow anybody to put any cold or hot beverage down on my furniture. My kids and grandchildren are good for that and boy, if I see it, I got bonkers on them! A guest came to a dinner party here one time and bought her delicious hot crab dip and I didn’t realize she didn’t have a hot pad underneath it..and there’s a spot where the finish was taken off the coffee table a little. Bless her, she’s in an alzheimer’s facility now and I feel bad even mentioning it.

    1. Thanks, Betty! The round table is perfect! It is very sturdy made from plywood and has 3 shelves under it. I keep our spare bed linens in it. I’ve had the box for years. It’s actually a set of 3. They were purchased on a trip somewhere….long time ago. LOL! We keep remotes and glass cases in it. I’m so with you on the coasters! I’m the same way!!! ~Christy

    1. Hey!!!! We bought the bedroom suit back in 1993!!! It is by Lexington from the Heirloom Mahogany series. Not sure if they still make it, but you could do a search. I’ve never grown tired of the classic style. Would you believe we had the choice of buying it distressed back then. We were like why would we want to buy something new that is worn and beat up! Too funny because I now love that look! LOL! Thanks for stopping by! ~Christy

  2. I like the original shades..very elegant looking but I’m sure the lighter shade helps give off more light for reading in bed.

  3. I really like the lighter color of the new shades. I’ve been on the lookout for new shades for some of mine. Our Homegoods doesn’t seem to have shades usually. I’m on the hunt!

    1. Thanks, Stacey! It can be hit or miss on the shades here too! They have a huge selection of lamps. I happened to get lucky on the shades!

  4. I think they both are pretty. I’m not really a blingy kind of girl so I understand why you wanted to change them.

    1. Thanks bunches, Rhonda! I’m not blingy either. When I bought the lamps I had every intention of changing the immediately….but it took a few years! LOL! Have a great week. 🙂

  5. I love them both…… I know, I know, I should have said only the new ones…. ooops and well it is just me.

  6. The new lampshades are much better, however, have you ever thought of trying black ones? They would lend a whole different look and yet would coordinate w/the frame above the bed.

    1. Thanks so much!!! Yes, I agree that black would look fabulous! Right now I like the lighter look of the linen shades against the window treatments. Luckily the bases have black to coordinate with the dark tones of the frame and window treatment hardware. May one day go black with them!!! Thanks bunches for the suggestion! 🙂

I love hearing from you!
