Patriotic Screened Porch

Thanks for sharing!

Nothing is more American that showing your patriotic colors to show your pride! Yesterday was such a special day as we celebrated Memorial Day in remembrance of all the souls that lost their lives so that we can have freedom.

Soon we will be celebrating the 4th of July!

Today I've teamed up with a fabulous group of bloggers to bring your our next Pinterest Challenge for all things patriotic decor

I want to give a big shout out to my sweet blogging friend, Cindy, from County Road 407 for organizing such a creative monthly tour. Be sure to follow along because each month we are taking one photo for inspiration and each one of us is recreating it with our special spin.

This month's inspiration is the photo above from Home Is Where The Boat Is. I have long admired Mary's home and style. You've got to visit her blog because you will be inspired! Thanks so much Mary for allowing us to use your photo for inspiration.

If you are stopping by from Decor to Adore then welcome!

Here is my take on the inspiration photo. That antique couch cushions are hunter green. To make it work, I layered 2 white quilted throws to create the look.

flag pillow

I simply added the Flag Pillow Cover and an assortment of dollar store flags. It all came together very quickly. The pillow will be great under our covered porch and coming in at under $9 it's a great addition. It's a cover so I just zipped it over one of my existing outdoor pillows.

I sewed the blue and white pillows with outdoor tablecloths that I picked up at Tuesday Morning. Then I went around the house and pulled other blue and white elements.

bicycle plate

I picked up these adorable bicycle melamine plates from a store in Wilmington, NC. They look like paper plates!

Decorating Tip: Place styrofoam in a white vase then fill it with flags and stars to create another arrangement.

Adding patriotic touches can be very simple when weaving them into your existing decor.

Red, white and blue truly works all summer long! BUT if you want to go back to your regular colors, simply remove the flags…..it's that simple.

  1. Christy!!!! (That’s me yelling with excitement over this gorgeous post!) You nailed this one girl! I would just live on that porch. It is so beautiful with the patriotic touches, and I can “see” it still looking beautiful all summer with the blue accents and summery accnets without the flags.

I love Wilmington! 10 years until we hopefully find our little dream retirement cottage in the Wilmington area! We will be there the third week of July for vacation. I shared a post about Vintage Marketplace in Wilmington from our trip summer before last, and I am getting ready to share another one in late June with photos from last year. It is one of my favorite antique shops ever! I can’t be out in the sun too much in the high heat of the day, so my husband and son go golf while I go junking at all the little shops.

Those little plates you found are just perfect summer fun!

So happy to join you for this challenge. I am inspired as always. Happy summer!

  2. Christy, Your porch is perfectly patriotic! You red, white and blue decor is simply charming! Everything you touch has your beautiful signature on it! I need to find those “paper” plates. They are adorable!
So thrilled to be a part of this tour.

  3. Christy, I love all the flags of different sizes. That adds a huge impact. The bicycle plates are awesome. So cute. I’m really loving the pillow covers made from a tablecloth. Great pattern in blue. What a great place to enjoy the summer.

    1. Thanks so very much, Carol! They material on those tablecloths were just what I was looking for in porch pillows and saved so much money! This really has been such a fun theme!

  4. Christy, I love the little changes all the the flags and covering your patio couch makes here on your porch!! Those little plates with the bicycles on them are adorable and I love that you took a vinyl tablecloth and made pillow covers ~ now I know what to do for my own outdoor patio furniture. Thanks for the great ideas. 🙂

Fun being on this Pinterest Challenge with you,
    Happy almost-summer,
    Barb 🙂

    1. Thanks so very much!!! If you decide to make some pillows, just look for tablecloths for outdoor. These aren’t vinyl which totally shocked me. It’s definitely stain resistant. This has been the most fun theme ever!

  5. So well done, Christy! I would never have guessed there’s a hunter green sofa hiding underneath! You’re a master of disguise, and I mean that in the nicest possible way. 🙂 I really enjoyed seeing your sitting area. It looks so serene and inviting for a 4th of July afternoon! I enjoyed participating in the challenge with you.

    1. Ha, ha!!! I love that title!! Thanks so very much for the amazing compliments. This tour has been so much fun!

  6. I always enjoy seeing your porch and I’ll have to say that I adore it decorated patriotically. I’m glad that you did your decorating before Memorial Day so that you can enjoy it through July 4 or even longer.

You were smart to think to cover your hunter green cushions with white blankets to get the look that you wanted. I think that we both purchased the same flag pillow cover!

I need to remember you styrofoam tip for displaying flags.

Everything looks wonderful and I so much enjoyed every picture.

    1. So sweet, Paula! Would you believe that red is my least favorite color??? After doing the patriotic porch, I just adore red now! I just love the little push this tour gives us to think outside the norm!

  7. Love your back porch Christy and what a great idea to cover the green cushions with white quilts! Everything turned out so adorable and festive. Thank you so much for joining in!

    1. Thanks so much, Cindy! This tour has been such fun. So blessed you asked me to join. It really keeps us creative!

  8. It’s crazy how simply adding flags and a pillow can bring the patriotic vibe to your home! Love those gold pillows, too! Looks great with the RWB! So glad to be part of this hop with you, Christy! Pinned!

    1. Thanks so very much, Julie! I never realized how simple it really is to create a patriotic look. I’m totally sold on it now!

  9. You know I absolutely love your porch, Christy, but it is extra stunning dressed in patriotic red, white and blue! Those bicycle plates are too cute, and I love how you combined them with blue and white plates and galvanized chargers; now you’ve got me wanting to host a Fourth of July bash;) Great idea to cover the dark green with white; brightens the whole scene up! Just lovely!

  10. Christy I love everything on your porch. The bicycle plates are too cute and a perfect touch. You captured this perfectly.

    Enjoy your day

    Cindy

  11. Christy, everything looks so pretty! I so miss having a screened porch. We had one in Alabama and in Tennessee, but not here in Texas. They are such a wonderful place to relax and yours is decorated beautifully! Love those cute bicycle plates! Have a great day! Hugs!

  12. Christy, I am loving your back porch and all the red, white and blue décor you placed in it. Also those plates are adorable. I love them. Your porch will be adored for sure!
