Peony and Grapevine Wreath

Welcome to the February edition of Thrift Store Decor Makeover Day!

This is truly one of my favorite posts each and every month. I love the creativity that comes out of our group. 

Grapevine wreaths are pretty plentiful at our local thrift store. You can never have enough wreaths…..right? A few months back I picked up this one. A few of years ago I picked up several wool sweaters for a project where you turn the sweaters into boiled wool. You can see the wreath I made back then HERE.

Just like my craft hoarding fashion, I didn't throw away what was left of that thrift store sweater! That is why it is cut up in the photo.

It was actually a really pretty sweater before I felted it. See the entire process with my Felted Leaves Wreath post.

I purchased the peony stems, green wired ribbon and the HI whitewashed letters at Walmart.

If you don't want to go to the trouble of felting old wood sweaters, look for some spring shirts at the thrift store that would work. Plaid would be really pretty!

For this wreath you will need: (affiliate links used)

• grapevine wreath form
• spring fabric
• wired ribbon
• spring floral stems
• floral wire
• letters of your choice
• hot glue
• hot glue gun 
• scissors
• safety pins

I cut the sleeves off of the sweater. Then I cut each sleeve open lengthwise. I also cut out a rectangle from the back of the sweater. I only ended up using the two sleeves. 

Wrap a band of the sweater around the top center of the wreath. I pinned it in the back with large safety pins. 

Next I made a ribbon with the dark sage green wired ribbon. Wire it to the grapevine wreath.

Next position the three peony flower stems. I cut the stems back to a short stem. Work them into the grapevine wreath until secure. 

Then secure another band of the fabric of your choice.

Then hot glue the HI letters to the wreath. These letters are perfect in that they are already painted and distressed for you. I love Walmart! They've really got a great little craft section going on. 

Y'all, yesterday it was 70 degrees! Today it was 45!! Got to love southern weather. I am really looking forward to a consistent 70! See my little Bentley peeking out! Still adore our porch rug!

I love an easy and cheap wreath!!!

When you add in some thrift store fabric or scraps, you are filling in the wreath and not having to add as many flowers and such! Win, win!
