Southern Screened Porch {Our Home Tour}

Thanks for sharing!

Welcome to our southern screened porch tour!  I am so happy you stopped by!  This is by far the favorite room in our home once the pollen has finished falling and until the leaves turn beautiful colors in the fall.  Please pour a glass of iced tea and enjoy your tour!

Southern Screened Porch Tour by Our Southern Home

Our porch did not start out screened.  After a couple of years of living here, my hubby finally realized that I was right!  I can't imagine that!!!  We love to spend time in the back yard, and the screened porch allows us shelter from the mosquitoes!  We tried to screen it in a way that did not block the views to the outdoors.

Most nights you will find us dining at this table.  It is typical for the kids to play in the backyard while the adults sip an adult beverage in the sitting area.  We purchased the outdoor wicker dining set about 3 years ago for joint gifts for each other.  The outdoor rug is from Frontgate and has held up beautifully!

The iron set is vintage/antique that I bought from a precious older lady pre-Craig's List about 14 years ago.  It had no cushions…just the frames.  I searched high and low for someone to sand blast the grunge and rust from it.  Then we sprayed it with Benjamin Moore primer and paint.  Would you believe that I just repainted it 2 years ago!  I had the cushions custom-made in the hunter green from a local outdoor living store.  They were worth the money!  They have been outdoors in the elements about 1/2 the time we've had them.    I would love to one day replace them in a more neutral fabric, but they are just still in too good a condition to do away with!

This coffee table was one of those OMGoodness finds!  I have a favorite home furnishing consignment store that I always visit when in Southport, NC.  It had my name on it for only $42!  It is so heavy and in great shape.  I haven't even changed the paint finish….yet!  The still stained side table is a recent Goodwill find for $4.50.  It has an appointment with a paintbrush….maybe this weekend!  The door was $4.  I've had it leaning out here with intentions of turning it into a porch rules sign.  For now I just have some unused plates from my daughter's room hanging.  I'm kind of liking it like that for now.  The pillows are from Plow and Hearth from about 3 years ago.

There are 3 sets of French doors across the back.  We have on occasion had all opened the the back.  Nice breeze!

I  love succulents!  I just picked up these adorable containers from an antique store at a great price!   I'll share more with you soon on these!

Here is a view of the other end of our porch.  The side door leads to our bedroom.

The 2 gliders were purchased the year after the dining set as another joint gift.  They are so comfy and are awaiting new cushions one of these days!  The small buffet table was in our kitchen for about 10 years.  It was still very pretty in cream with a floral motif.  Last spring pre-blogging I painted it in Duck Egg Blue by Annie Sloan Chalk Paint.  There is no official before.  I am sure there is some snapshot somewhere of it.  I love this paint!!!  I store candles, lighter, and playing cards in the drawers.  The basket houses yard toys.

I've had this iron work hanging from a going out of business sale for a couple of years.  I made the wreath for it last spring.

The wonderful driftwood has been collected through the years on our beach walks on Caswell Beach, NC.

I still need to plant pots with summer flowers.  I hung these commercial grade string lights 3 years ago inside the porch.  They stay up all the time.  I have them plugged into a Christmas remote control so they are easy on easy off!  That is typically the only porch lighting we use now.  I so apologize for the beautiful crazy white ball hanging from the umbrella!  I meant to take that down before photographing!  I take it down for company?  Any idea what it is?  It scares the birds off the patio and making their mess!!!  You have to move it around so they don't get wise to it!  So far it works!!!!!!

  1. I have the same six-sided tables, two, that I have had for over 20 years. I was going to put them in a Garage Sale this weekend because we are moving to a new home. The new house has a large covered porch and we have no outdoor furniture. I saw this post on Home Talk today, I think, and new I had those same tables. I am keeping those tables and painting just likes you did!!! Thanks so much for the idea. I am a new Subscriber!!!

  2. Christy, your porch is wonderful, thanks for sharing. I have the same 6-sided glass top table — but I paid $200 for mine. You did great at $4.50!!!

  3. I’m really glad to have stopped by. Thanks for sharing this gorgeous porch of yours and all these wonderful ideas. You’ve got a really nice place and i love how you designed your porch. We could really use some screens to spruce up and use that extra space just like what you did over there and i love your furnitures just as well.

    1. I am so happy you found my blog and visited!!!! Thanks so very much! Look forward to hearing from you again! Enjoy your porch! Ours has evolved over time. Love decorating it with thrift store finds! Happy fall!!

  4. Christy, I am a new blog “junkie” and just found your blog -LOVE EVERYTHING! Your porch is gorgeous and I know you enjoy it. I absolutely love the black wicker dining table and chairs. Do you remember where you found it? I have been searching for a black wicker set for many months and can’t seem to find the right table or chair. Yours looks exactly like what I want for our porch. You are very gifted and talented lady with an eye for style! Thank you for your time and keep up the beautiful blog posts!

    1. Pam,
You have just made my day!!!! Thanks you so very much! I am not sure where you live, but I got the resin outdoor wicker at a local shop in Piedmont, SC. I believe it may be a chain and is called http://www.notjustwicker.com If you can’t get it where you are, they may be able to tell you a location where you live. We have had it about 4 years now, and I just love it! I am so happy to have you here! I look forward to hearing from you in the future! Have a lovely evening. ~Christy

  5. I love what you did with the vintage iron couch set. We have one just like it that I’m trying to redo. I searched for the Benjamin Moore paint that you used on it. Can you direct me to which one you used? I was unable to find a spray paint on their website.

    1. Thanks so much! The first time that I painted it (many years ago) we used Benjamin Moore paint for iron in gallon format. It was then used in a sprayer. I repainted it with Rustoleum Spray paint in cans using the textured black. The BM with the sprayer definitely maintains a finish longer, but the Rustoleum spray cans is quick and easy! ~Christy

  6. This is a lovely porch! Thanks so much for sharing it. I love the driftwood idea. I have your porch pinned onto my Pinnable Porches board so I can visit it , and your blog!

  7. This porch, full of thrift store finds, looks like a million bucks! It is just beautiful. The mosquitos in NJ are nasty, so I’d love to have a screened in porch.

    1. Thanks bunches, Amy! Mosquitoes are really bad here, too! That’s why hubby finally agreed to screen it in! Love a screened porch!

  8. Love your porch! It looks so welcoming–just like a true Southern home!!! I also like your beautiful white ball which frightens the birds. Did you make it or purchase it? We have a pair of mallard ducks who think that our swimming pool is their private pond. Nothing seems to keep them away. I would love to buy or make a ball like yours.

    1. I purchased them on Amazon. It was a set of 3. It is like a blow up beach ball! I was mortified that I forgot to take it down for the photo! LOL! I was getting the post ready and realized it. Oh, well…I guess that keeps it real. They really work!!! Thanks for stopping by for a visit!

  9. I love your house… what I have seen of it is gorgeous. I love the screened in porch, the patio AND your windows! Well everything.

    1. Trish, I assume you are talking about the dining set? It is resin wicker in a very dark brown. We have been very happy with it! Thanks so much for visiting!!

  10. Hi, love your outdoor area. Any chance sharing where you purchased the wicker furniture? LOVE IT! Thanks

    1. Thanks so much!! Are you local? If so, in Piedmont at the Wicker Warehouse. I think I saved a tag from it. I’ll check and let you also know the manufacturer.

  12. Hi Christy – I absolutely love your screened porch. The plate display door, the potted succulents, the decorative iron pieces, the Duck Egg Blue buffet, the gliders, the pot of driftwood . . . You’ve pulled it all together so well. I used to have two tables just like your little side table and I gave them away. That was before I knew about ASCP 🙁

I also like the layout of your blog. I hope to switch over to WordPress this summer to get a little more versatility. So glad I found you over at Imparting Grace. I can’t wait to see more of your lovely home!

    Blessings,
    Patti@OldThingsNew

    1. Patricia,

Thanks so much for the sweet comments!!!! Yes, I to have regret over things I gave away in the past! A coat of ASCP and I would have loved them again!!! I am still getting used to WP with just moving. I can really see the benefits. Hopefully, by the time you switch I will feel better about things and can offer help!!! I’ll be sure to visit your blog! 😉

  23. Christy – what a wonderful porch! What is the name of the store in Southport? I was just there last week! Such a cute little town. Thank you for sharing your home, it’s very inspiring.

    1. Katy, thanks so much! The consignment store that I LOVE is Rebecca’s! Have you seen it….it’s in an old house. There are tons of great thrift stores and antique shops there. Are you a regular visitor to Southport?

  24. Thank you so much for sharing your lovely porch. My hubby and I are mutual gifters too. It’s worked for 25 years 🙂
We’ve pondered enclosing our wrap around porch, and you’ve inspired me 🙂

    1. Thanks Penney! Mother’s and Father’s Day works out great for mutual gifts!!! I bet your porch is fabulous! I would so not hesitate to screen it. Keeps the bugs out!

  25. Oh how beautiful!! Now you can get the most out of the seasons now that it is screened in.
Came over from Kelly’s. We don’t have a long enough season here in Ontario,Canada for a screened in
    porch…But I can always dream…..

    1. Thanks so much, Kristen! I had been looking at outdoor wall art, but never the right time for an expensive purchase. Very happy with the $4 door and existing plates already on hand! Thanks for stopping by!

  26. Your porch is perfect for sipping lemonade (and margaritas)! That coffee table was a find – it’s perfect as is and that door would look cute with porch rules!
    Kelly

    1. Thank, Kelly! I still have plans to do that sign this summer once the pollen has run its course! It has been so bad here….worst year eva! Of course we say that every year. 🙂 Can’t wait to meet at Haven.

  27. Christy, what a great space you’ve created! I would never want to be inside!! We have been trying to stay on top of the pollen, by giving everything a quick wipe down, after the lawn guy finishes blowing. So far, so good! Like you, we only have a small window of opportunity to really enjoy it, before the searing heat of summer kicks in. I love all of your lovely accents!

    1. Thanks, Shenita!!!! Yes, the pollen is nuts right now!!! Never ending broom and dust buster work! Have a lovely weekend. 🙂

  28. What a beautiful porch. I would live out there -I sure did when I had one!I love the furniture-the older stuff is sure made better than what is on the market now!

    1. Thanks so much Vickie! I agree the older stuff is great! I paid like $100 for 10 pieces!!!!! Have a great weekend!

  29. Very nice. I miss a good front porch, being a transplanted Southern Belle front porches are few and far between. It’s kinda of funny I just wrote a post about a front porch being a necessity for any good Southern.

  30. Beautiful area! My favorite part is that pop of blue in the side table. Very well pulled-together area.

  31. I enjoyed seeing your screened porch, Christy! I would love having those French doors opening onto it. You know that end table that you’re going to paint? I had one just like it in the late 1970s! Kinda wish I had it now so that I could paint it!

    1. Thanks, Jane! So funny how we toss things out with regret later! I have many things that I wish that I had kept! Thanks goodness for an attic. LOL!

  32. Your porch is beautiful! Everything looks so inviting and perfect for a southern afternoon! Love those french doors! I’m pretty sure I could live out there all summer.

  33. Simply beautiful. I love screened in porches. You have created such a cozy oasis. I could sit back & sip an adult beverage while watching the kids play out back 🙂 Can’t wait to see more. Thank you for sharing.

    1. Thanks so much, Lynn!!!! I just love our porch so much! The mosquitoes love me, so it is my favorite outdoor spot! Have a lovely rest of the week!

  34. Christy, everything is so beautiful! Your porch looks as big as my entire back yard 🙂 Also, I bought an identical end table last summer from Goodwill and painted it in Duck Egg but left the weave pattern on the bottom stained! It was beautiful and was sold to a client! Any time you want to invite me over, I will be happy to sit on the porch with you!

    1. Sonya,
Thanks so much and that sounds like a plan!!!! I love the table and can’t wait to paint it. We need to get together soon and discuss blogging with each other!

  35. It’s gorgeous, Christy! I’m sure you will miss this part of your house the most when you move. Looking forward to meeting my blog friend in person this weekend! 🙂

    1. Thanks so much Tricia!!! Yes, we will miss it. I hope the next house has a screened porch or the ability to add one! I look forward to meeting you, too! Leslie asked me to host for her this weekend, but just not able. Hubby has too many “getting ready to sell” projects going here to disrupt that right now. I hope it still works out! Hug to you, friend!

    1. Tammy,
Thanks so much! The plates on the door was a last minute thing as I was photographing!!! So glad you think it works. Happy weekend to you!

  36. Christy, Your porch is gorgeous–I have been dreaming of screening in my patio for a long time–just call me bug bait! Its lovely and I can see why you enjoy it so much!

    Karen

    1. Oh, Karen

My son and I are bug bait as well! We go through the bug spray and I can’t stand using it! LOL! Thanks so much for stopping by and your kind comments! Big hug to you 🙂

  37. Everything looks beautiful Christy! I love all your touches especially the old paneled door with the plates. My mom has a sunporch and it is our favorite room in the entire house. The boys love it so much that we sleep out there when at Grandmas.

    1. Thanks so much, Pamela!!!! I bet the boys love “camping out” on the porch! Many porch memories are made. Have a great weekend, friend!

  38. Fabulous…is an understatement! Wow, Christy just lovely. We only have one set of french doors on our porch. 😉 I’d love 3! But I love to open them up to the family room when the weather is nice (and there’s not a ton of pollen…which basically equates to 2-3 days a year!,lol). Thanks so much for sharing your lovely home. I can’t wait to see the rest! 🙂
    Nancy

    1. Thanks so much, sweet friend! The pollen is horrible right now! Like you , the air will be on late May-Mid-September. Small window of ooprtunity of door open as well! Big huge hug to you for your wonderful support and friendship!

I love hearing from you!
