Summer at Home
I absolutely adore decorating our home for the seasons! I'll be honest that before I started blogging in 2012, it was just fall, Easter and Christmas decor. Blogging certainly forces you to be creative and change things up.
Changing things up doesn't mean you have to break the bank or have tons of extra decor to store! Today is my day to share Summer at Home……our Summer Home Tour.
A huge thanks to Marty from A Stroll Thru Life for all of the work and organizing that she does each season!
If you are visiting from Amber at Follow the Yellow Brick Home then a huge welcome. Thanks for visiting. Be sure to subscribe for future home updates! As always, thanks to my subscribers and all others popping in for a visit.
2018 Summer Home Tour
Welcome to our home in South Carolina. We built and then moved in Memorial Weekend back in 2004! We are finally at a point where I'm doing some simple updates with paint. If you've followed my blog, you'll notice those changes in the family room! Excuse that weedy area on the right. We are in the process of killing all the fescue in the front yard as well as the weeds. We've already done this in the backyard. The backyard now has zoysia sod. The front will have it in the fall. We loved our fescue. It was gorgeous in the spring, fall and winter. The summer not so good. So now we are opting for a pretty summer and fall yard. Hello to a brown yard in the winter.
Bentley welcomes you!
We have gas lanterns here at the walkway and at the front door. Do you notice the hydrangeas that we just planted? 12 of them to be exact. Six on each side. I am so excited about their future.
This is the first time that I've planted impatients across the front in the pots. The large trees are really giving great shade here now. It's a positive and a negative. Negative is that the brick patio area is a beast to keep clean.
This rug is like my favorite ever. I purchased it couple of Christmases ago, it is seriously the best. I clean it with a scrub brush and Dawn then hose it off. The basket wreath was just made last month. It was my thrift store makeover for May and my favorite wreath to date!
You can find my summer wreath here.
Can you tell that I adore pink? I can seem to get away with it outside!
I used to hang baskets of Boston Ferns, but they are just too messy!! I added more pink flowers instead. I broke up with Boston Ferns and now use Macho Ferns. They get huge and have little to no shedding!
This table is one of my favorite thrift store finds and makeovers. This look kind of happened by chance. You can read about its makeover HERE.
I just finished this thrift store stool makeover after I photographed the porch. I love it out here now.
Below are items used for DIY porch projects and porch decor.
Our formal dining room is a work in progress. I repainted the red wall a couple of years ago, but the window treatments stayed the same. You just can't go wrong with a classic toile. I adore all things toile.
We sold our beautiful, more formal dining room suite late winter and opted for casual elegance. The old suite was purchased for our last home, and never was the right fit. The instigator for selling it was this piece below.
We inherited it from my husband's family. It was in his grandparent's farmhouse and is 100+ years old. It is massive at 6 feet wide and 9 feet tall. It needs some work which I'll be tackling in the fall. It will go on the full back wall where the china cabinet used to be.
I'm kind of obsessed with all things blue these days. I found these gorgeous rimmed plates at Marshalls. They had 6 and I bought them all. We use them all the time. They are excellent for pasta and entre salads.
Nothing says summer like hydrangeas. Trader Joes is my go-to spot until my newly planted hydrageas get some size on the them.
Napkins and linens are the easiest way to change-up your look throughout the seasons. Marshalls and Tuesday Morning are my favorite places for napkins. These came from Kirklands.
We are loving the new Agreeable Gray walls in the majority of our living area. We had it painted this spring, and it was the best decision ever!
I love pillows and have a serious storage problem! I've got a solution for you…..Etsy! You can order pillow covers for your existing pillows and they are much easier to store!
The new floral pillows are from Etsy and I am smitten with them! I took off the toile covers that I had made and switched them out. The other pillows are the same.
Thanks so much for visiting my tour! I have so many more photos of family room details. I'll be sharing those soon in another post. Make sure you go give April from House by Hoff a visit.

Your front porch is to die for, Christy! I always love to tour your home, but at this time of year I have to confess that I have my eye on porches and patios. Good luck to your hydrangeas–a house isn’t a home without them!!
XO, Christy

Beautiful porch and home. Can you tell me the name of the porch ceiling color? I am redoing my 3 season porch and looking for the perfect blue-green color. Thank you
