Upcycled Spring Wreath
Are you ready to say goodbye to winter coats, snow and dark colors?
Why not say Hello to Spring with a new wreath for your front door?
Today my “Inspired By” group is sharing Spring Wreaths.
You can see all of my behind the scenes on the blog by following on Instagram.
The full list of spring wreaths is below.
This wreath has been on my front door 1 year too many. It's pretty, but just doesn't look fresh any longer. Not to mention how dirty looking the greenery and flowers look.
Honestly, I just wanted something different, but really didn't want the expense of what the old one cost me.
So I proceeded to take this one apart just like I did my old fall wreath HERE.
Resist the urge to donate the entire wreath. The grapevine wreath is the perfect shape and size for my door.
I carefully removed the flowers and greens. I decided to experiment here. I took the greens and flowers that I wanted to try to salvage to the sink and washed them with a little Dawn. WOW! They actually cleaned up well.
I discovered that I could use a lot of this old wreath to build a new wreath.
This is all that I purchased…. A few fresh flowers and spool of wired spring ribbon for the bow. The adorable “Welcome Spring” rusty bucket hanger was a recent thrift store find. It's the perfect size for a wreath. Lucky for me the new flowers and ribbon were on sale 50% off.
I already had on hand the following: small bird, florists foam, wire, hot glue gun and wide unwired burlap ribbon.
Here is the original grapevine wreath all cleaned up.
I like to skimp on the expensive ribbon and use my burlap ribbon that I buy in bulk for projects like this. I just wrapped a portion of the wreath for added texture and secured it behind with a little hot blue.
The little bucket has 2 tiny holes on it where the handle is attached. I pushed wire through it to secure it to the wreath. Before that I stuffed a bit of florist foam inside. I had to cut it to fit. Then just inserted a few flowers.
TIP: It's ok to cut up those sprays of flowers you buy. Just use a pair of wire cutters and cut to the desired height. I cut all of the stems apart that I buy. It works best like that for wreaths and small projects.
I did end up stuffing a little moss inside the bucket to hide the green florist foam…somewhat.
For the flowers here, I just inserted and worked them into the grapevine. The bow is wired and secured to the wreath. I am so please that I was able to use so much of the old stuff.
I'll be sharing more of my spring porch soon.
Now it's time to go pack all those winter clothes away…except it has turned cold again. Typical southern weather. Flip flops one day, boots the next.

Love your spring wreath, Christy! You’d never know that it was made from recycled items. That little bucket it too cute. And please spills the beans – where do you get your burlap ribbon from?
Oh it does look better!! I really like the use of just a few colors rather than many. It gives it a rich classy look; Great job!!
Hi my friend – there is nothing better than re-using items to create something else. There is a sense of accomplishment isn’t there. I think what I like most is the bow (oh my love that print!) and the rusty little basket. What a great find. I would never have known you recycled an old wreath if you had not told us. Great job. I loved being part of the “Inspired by Spring Wreaths” Blog Hopw with you. Can’t wait for next month. xxoo, Barb
So pretty! I love the colors and the ribbon and that adorable thrift store find. And I did chuckle for a moment when you listed having a bird “on hand” …
So happy to be sharing Spring wreaths with you on this Saturday!
🙂 Linda
Thanks, Linda! You are making me chuckle now!!! Lol!
Beautiful wreath, Christy! I like how you wrapped burlap around one portion of it. I need to remember that tip for the next wreath I make. I also never throw a wreath away. The last wreath I made used two grapevine wreaths that my grandfather made in the late 80’s wired together. I’m sure he was looking down at me smiling. (Pinning and sharing on FB!)
Thanks, Paula! What a treasure to have those wreaths your grandfather made!
Very pretty Christy! I made a new Spring wreath for our front door last week hoping it would bring us some Spring like weather…didn’t work lol!!
Thanks, Martina! In the 40s today and expecting 77 Tuesday. Ready for consistent warmth!
sweet wreath and I love that you were able to use the existing wreath. Have a great weekend!
Thanks, Laura! Have a great weekend!
