Weathered Rustic Plant Stand
This month's furniture theme is Rustic. Rustic can really be interpreted different ways.
I chose to go with a weathered rustic look.
I recently picked up this fern stand at my local Restore for $15. It has a good shape and is really heavy. That's great for a table that's a little taller and more narrow than a regular end table. The color just doesn't work in our home.
The only bad area was the top. I cleaned the stand well and gave the top a light sanding to get everything nice and smooth.
I painted a base coat with 2 coats of Coco in Annie Sloan Chalk Paint.
Now the next step I took a chance on. I dry brushed Old Ochre.
Dry brushing is very simple, dries fast and uses very little paint.
Dab brush in paint and wipe a bit off on a paper towel. Then lightly paint the piece. It gives a weathered look.
Just use a regular Purdy brush.
Now to get the final look….I wiped on one coat of Weathered Oak stain by Minwax. Immediately wipe over it with a paper towel to remove the excess. I let it dry thoroughly and added 1 coat of varnish to seal.
The stain gives it a warmer look. I am really loving the finish. I may just have to try it on a larger piece.
Here is a frame that I painted using the same technique, but with multiple colors and a whitewash. You can see it HERE.
Check out all of the other projects this month!
I’d love for you to follow along on social media!
