Winter Wonderland Tablescape {Dining Room}

Thanks for sharing!

I must say that I am a happy camper!  After weeks of technical issues on my computer, I am up and running!  After the installation of new Internet, new wireless router, tech house call and hefty checks written…we are up and running!  Having satellite Internet in the country has its challenges.  I have lots to get caught up on and show you!  This is our formal dining room.  It is directly across form my husband's home office with the foyer in between.

This room is still a work in progress.  I did have the new window treatments custom made last January.  I recovered the chairs in a golden/brown velvet last winter as well.  The large, old rug was an EBay find for $110 a few years ago.  I do plan to change the wall color in the upcoming months.

Let's get started with my Woodland tablescape for this year.  I find it helpful to lay anything that I may plan to use nearby to pick from.  I may or may not use it all.  The reindeer are little toys from the craft store.  I'll show you in another post how I jazzed those up!

The first step for me is placing my anchor pieces.  In this instance, it is the trees from World Market that I recently purchased.  The beautiful mercury glass hurricane was a Pottery Barn purchase last year.  The runner is the same one from my fall tablescape.

The next part is where the fun comes!  All of the greens used are from yard clippings.  I went on a stroll and cut cedar and boxwood.  You will notice that a few of the cedar branches are slightly white.  I sprayed a few with flocking spray outside.  Let them dry before bringing inside.  This was the first time that I have attempted flocking.  It is a bit messy, but oh so easy!

Here you can see a bit more of the flocking.

 I have had the placemats for years!  They are actually reversible with a different pattern in the same colorway.  The neutral napkins are a new addition from Kohl's Bobby Flay collection.  The wine cork placecard holders are the same ones that I made in the fall.

Do you notice my deer and their face lift from toy to amazing??  Quick easy tutorial for that soon.

I really try to keep to a tablescape that all of your guests can see over and through.  Have you ever been to a dinner party where the centerpiece had to be removed when everyone started to sit down for the wonderful meal?

I have 6 of these little deer running through the Winter Wonderland.

Update:  Rub ‘n Buff Toy Reindeer tutorial is up on the blog!

I'll show you the rest of the dining room in another post.  I'd love for you to follow Our Southern Home through Google Friends Connect or the various other ways.  I have much more to share with you from Our Christmas Southern Home!

Merry Christmas and Happy Holidays!

  2. Beautiful tablescape! That last pic looks like it should be in a magazine! Your little cork name cards are so clever. I’ll have to make a few. Thanks for joining our Countdown to Winter Party!

  3. Beautiful! I love your chandelier! I love the size in relation to the size of your table. Can you tell me the size and manufacturer?

    1. Thanks so much! I just looked and they have this chandelier in 2 sizes. Is yours the large? Do you mind if I ask how wide your table is?

      Thanks!!! I am just having a hard time visualizing the size in my dining room so that would be helpful. (;

      Merry Christmas!

  4. BEAUTIFUL but my husband would ask, “were does one put the serving platters and dishes for the food …. BUT …. what does he know. I think it looks amazing!!!!!!!!!
    MERRY CHRISTMAS TO YOU and YOUR LOVED ONES. -Brenda-

    1. Thanks, Brenda! Too funny! We have a large center island in our kitchen, and I find that it is easier with kids to have all of the food laid out buffet style there. It also helps to protect our dining table and keep an uncluttered look for dining. Merry Christmas to you and your family!!! I hope you stop by again!

    Many times, I literary FREEZE at the centerpiece of staging a table. You have an ease in the way you approach the task with elegance and poise! I’ll try to take a cue from you with my next tablescape! Thanks for the inspiration!!!

  7. Hi Christy, Your dining room is beautiful and I love the tablescape. The picture looking in to your husbands office could be a magazine cover. Thanks for sharing your stunning dining room at the Open House party. Happy Holidays! Hugs, Sherry

  9. Stunning – just the right amount of bling! I agree – it’s so funny when you sit down at a table and you can’t chat with the people across from you because there’s a giant centerpiece blocking the way!

    Love your cork place settings – and lucky you to be able to gather your greens from your yard.

    1. Thanks so much Kelly! I am glad I’m not the only one that feels the same about tablescapes. I have cedar in the woods. Boxwood and holly shrubs and magnolia trees (little gem – they stay smaller). I’ve told the kids I want them to plant 2 leyland cyprus trees in the woods for me for Christmas this year. They are my favorite to decorate with. We had a whole row at our old house and none here. Merry Christmas!!!

I love hearing from you!
