DIY Snowflake Ornament

Thanks for sharing!

These DIY Snowflake Ornaments were so simple to make and a bit therapeutic as well!

There is just something about needlework on the couch watching the DVR that = the perfect craft!

I do not know how to do proper needlework, so if I can do this…so can you!

You will need the following supplies. Mine came from Hobby Lobby. {affiliate links for similar}

Here is what you will do:

  • separate the embroidery hoop into 2 pieces. With the larger of the 2, trace a circle onto the background fabric. Cut it out going slightly to the outside of your drawn circle.
  • Place the cut circle of fabric into your hoop and secure with the hoop screw.
  • With pencil and a ruler as a guide, draw your lines for your snowflake.
  • Thread the needle with the gold yarn so it is of double thickness.
  • Stitch the lines. No need to be perfect. I prefer the “homespun” look.
  • I didn't draw the little side lines. I just eyeballed them as I stitched using the snowflake picture as a guide.
  • Remove the twine from the mini-ornament
  • attach it to the center of your needlework with the yarn just slightly at the top to secure.
  • Use a piece of twine to create a hanger for the top

Can you see the faint pencil lines?

Double thickness of the yarn and crossing over stitches gave me a chunkier look.

I just stitched the little offshoots of the long lines.

I love the rustic elegance of the ornament. I am making a dozen of them for our foyer tree.

  1. These are adorable and a tree filled with them in your foyer is going to be lovely. It’s been a long while since I’ve done any needlework and a project like this would be a good way to get back into it.

  2. Christy, this is just the cutest thing. And the rustic snowflake definitely takes it over the top!! Sorry, you had so many problems with your host. I left BH to go to SiteGround because their service was so poor. Hope you find the resolution you need.

Thanks so much for joining in the fun again this year and for sharing your creativity.

I love hearing from you!
