Dollar Tree Easter Eggs

Thanks for sharing!

Day light savings time gave us more daylight. That just does something for me!

It excites me to know that consistent warmer days are just right around the corner. Here in South Carolina, it is not uncommon to have a day in the 70s and the next day go back to the 40s.

Regardless, it signals a time for me to start getting excited about decorating for spring! Easter Sunday is late this year…..April 20th! That means a longer time to enjoy the decorations.

I enjoy strolling around dollar stores during the holidays. You can really create some inexpensive holiday decorations…..just enter the store with your thinking cap on!

I already had the plastic eggs in my cart as I began my stroll through the store. I came across this clothes line…..Yes, clothes line. They have it in some great colors. It looks just like baker's twine, but thicker. I decided on the green. I knew that I wanted to use these with some other painted eggs so the green was the perfect accent. They have it in a lime green, blue and pinkish color.

One pack of clothes line covered 5 of the medium eggs. This ended up being enough for my kitchen table.

You will need to heat up your hot glue gun. I placed a bit of hot glue where the egg halves join for security. Place hot glue on one end and start a circular pattern like above. Let this set up before proceeding.

Then just follow the pattern around the egg placing hot glue around as you go to secure the clothes line.

I highly recommend having a tooth pick or old pencil handy to help guide the line close to the next row when needed. Trim the ends and finish off with glue to secure. Pretty quick and easy. You now have 5 great looking eggs to add texture for $2!

I have them placed on my kitchen table for a centerpiece on top of a grain sack painted board runner. I'll be sharing that later this week and the tablescape!

  1. I *just* saw this post on Pinterest and had to click over because I did the exact same thing with that dollar store closthesline. The red color reminded me of bakers twine and I thought I could wrap eggs in it. It is so awesome that you had the same idea! Great minds!

  2. This is a great idea for decorating Easter eggs! I’m so ready for spring and Easter decorations and am also glad that Easter is late so I can enjoy my decorations for a long time period.

    1. Thanks Paula! I’m sure you are really ready for spring with all the snow you’ve had this year! Have a great week!! ~Christy

  3. How very clever. I just passed that clothesline by….. I wanted the fat cotton one to use for piping for a slip cover for my sofa….. might have to go back and get it, just way too cute. How long did it take you to do the eggs?

  4. Christy, have you checked all the Easter Tablescape ideas on Pinterest? Just looking at them makes me think Spring is around the corner! All the pretty tablescape and centerpieces, pastel napkins, floral arrangements, ceramic bunnies, real and faux easter eggs..sure doesn’t help to brighten one’s day when the weather is looking cloudy and dreary. Supposed to be getting rain today, so guess that’s why it is so dreary looking outside..maybe it will rain enough so it can wash some of the dirty snow piles that still here from 4-6 weeks ago. I have several colors of light colored table clothes and matching napkins..might have to put the pink one on and add some mint green, lavender accessories and add in yellow with daffodils even if they are silk or fresh. I saw an idea where a blogger used crystal candle holders, with pastel eggs(fake or recently died real eggs). I have several prs of clear glass candleholders and the Humane Society Thrift store always has lots of them..Umm! a brain storm is coming up to brighten my day.

  5. These look amazing! In the past I’ve braided fabric scraps and done slip-knot yarn chains around Easter eggs, but I love this look and would not have guessed it was a clothe line!

  6. Christy, you are so creative. I would have passed by that “clothes line” but no, your mind started working overtime what you could do with it..You sure have a lot of patience to wrap those plastic eggs. They really came out beautiful. Something different than the usual pastel colors..Now let’s see how you can make the Ukranian design Easter Eggs! Tuesday morning had a wonderful display of ceramic bunnies a few weeks ago but I bet they are all gone by now. Maybe I better make a visit there today to see if they still have some of that stock. They were so adorable..That store is only a mile away so I can slip down there later on today and check it out. I often see things I want but storage room is an issue and since there is just DH and I and he has so many health issues, I don’t tend to decorate for a lot of holidays anymore. The Grandchildren are 21,18, 15 so I tend not to go out for anything but Christmas..their lives are too busy to sometimes make Christmas anymore. And that is just as well because my energy level has gone down south the last few years..I have more important responsibilities now..called caregiver. But if I can find those bunnies, I could still make up a centerpiece and have a dessert party for my Senior Citizen “friends” that I hang with.

I love hearing from you!
