Farmhouse Stool
Welcome to Thrift Store Decor Makeover Day! It's that time of the month where a group of blogging friends come together for the good of a bargain!
This is perhaps the only makeover that my daughter did not want me to do. This cute little stool has been hanging out in the garage for some months now. Collecting cobwebs and lending a hand to high shelves.
That was never my intention for said stool. I had bigger plans for her boring browness. I knew she would fit in perfectly indoors with our other accessories. She'd lend them a hand…you know elevate them….give them some height.
Quite frankly she was perfectly fine here on the hearth of our master bedroom. I just shared this makeover space on the blog Monday. Come check out the master makeover!
This step is so very easy! I just wanted to lighten up the dark stain. Give it more of a weathered look.
This required no painting at all. Just scoop out a tablespoon of wax and add a teaspoon of the desired color and mix together. I used Annie Sloan products here, but any other would would work fine. I used clear wax and pure white chalk paint. It will look like icing.
Then with a shop paper towel (the blue ones), wax your piece and wipe it in. With your final wipe…go in the same direction as the grain. I buffed out a bit more in some places for more brown to show through.
I love this technique. I've even painted a table grey before and gone over it with the same technique. It turned out gorgeous! I still need to share that with you. I use it with my staging.
You can see the difference where I have completed the final wiping.
I really like the difference now. The vignette feels fresher.
I know I'm going to get a lot of use out of this cutie!
It's got a nice farmhouse look now!
You can do this technique with any color. You might want to do a few test boards first or underneath an inconspicuous area. It's a great option if you do not want all over color or want to lighten a piece that might be a tad too dark.
Let's see what the other ladies have for us today!

I love this , as I love all things old and with the weathered look!
I will try this with one of mine soon! Thanks for sharing Christy! 🙂
Thank you so much! Have fun creating!
Christy,
I love the new look of your stool. I have been making stools similar to this like crazy the last two weeks for an upcoming show. Many of mine look like this color. I hope people love them as much as they love yours so I can sell a bunch this weekend.
Maybe I need to take some books, candlesticks and such for staging. I think that’s sort of how I staged my original one for September’s Power Tool Challenge.
Beautiful job!
