I love a great thrift store find! Furniture finds at a great price are a bit harder to find these days. I can't tell you how many things I've wanted, but have passed due to the excessive price. This chair was an awesome price….$5!

I knew it would make a great accent chair!

I love caned back chairs! This chair was very sturdy and only needed updating.  I cleaned it really well with a damp rag. Be sure to let it dry thoroughly before paining.

I know you are thinking….what in the world!!! 3 cans of different spray paints! I can be a little impatient. I wanted to paint the chair right then. I didn't want to paint by hand. I wanted the ease of spraying with this project. I used what I had…parts of 3 different cans. I knew since I was going for a vintage look….it would hopefully work out! Guess what….it did! I did spay with the can on the far left first with the added primer. I would not have done this for a chest or larger piece, but for a chair like this…..ok.

I applied 3 light coats of spray paint…using every last drop of each can!

I let that dry really well then I applied this glaze. I love this glaze. The color is great and it is easy to use. I let it dry thoroughly and distressed in a few areas. This chair is being used in home staging of flip houses so I didn't take the time to seal. My hubby needed it that very day for the real estate agent to photograph for the listing.  I really didn't have time. If I were using it in my home for regular use, I'd seal with a simple flat clear sealer like I used in this project for the Annie Sloan Chalk Painted Pots.

Now it's time to work on the cushion. Again, my hubby needed this chair ASAP. I didn't have time to purchase fabric and really didn't want to . I looked in my stash and decided to go with the burlap. It looked a little plain as is. This was the perfect opportunity to try my hand at painting fabric. You know how I love grain sack stripes!!!

Find the center of your fabric and tape of a larger center stripe in the desired width. I did 2 inches. Then I painted with a foam brush using Annie Sloan Chalk Paint in Chateau Grey (my favorite color). I did 3 coats. Remove the tape and it must dry thoroughly before you can tape off the outer 2 stripes.

The size stripe is completely up to you and the size of your project. You just want to make sure you have everything equal on each side. I taped off over 1 inch on each side of the center stripe with a 1/2 inch stripe to be painted. I painted 3 coats on each of these as well. Remove the tape.

I pulled out my hair dryer to speed up the drying process. I then applied 1 coat of clear wax just to the painted striped areas. I let that dry and slightly buffed it. It doesn't transfer to clothing. It is not stiff or uncomfortable. Remember this is just an accent chair, but is perfectly fine to sit in worry free!

All ready to staple to the cushion.

Just center on the cushion. I used my heavy-duty staple gun from Lowe's. A regular stapler will not go through the wood!

Just some very simple staging for this mantel area was all that was needed.

How about that quick work. Great job. I would have never thought of using wax over the paint. And Burlap never looked so good. I really love the look of it.

You reminded me of a week I spent in St. Augustine with my darling pup Rufus The Pekingese (no loner with me). Rufus had the only letter of recommendation as a guest puppy in a B & B that I have ever known. He was such a darling little guy. Anyway, I wanted to buy a cane chair the owner had in the room we stayed in that one week…… Rufus loved it because it was cool for him to sleep on. Funny how anyone could miss one little pup so much.

What a difference a little bit of paint makes! I can’t believe it’s the same chair. Do you think painting the fabric will wear off the paint — I’m really wanting to try painting fabric but I’m worried about it not staying on the fabric.

Thanks so much!!! It sure was a budget way to finish the chair. I think the fabric painted will wear just fine. Be sure to wax it to seal it. My friend Nancy over at Artsy Chicks Rule has painted some beautiful fabric pieces. Visit her blog to see some examples and what she says about wear. Her new white chair is to die for!!! ~Christy

Thanks so much for all the comments and suggestion Thanks so much for all the comments and suggestions about my back yesterday. I did absolutely nothing and rested it. I slept better last night, and it's much better today. Last year on this very day, I posted our winter mantel. I loved this look. We enjoyed it so much throughout January. Keep on using your fresh greenery and twinkle lights if it makes you happy! Going through old ideas has me inspired to spruce up our mantel. Sadly, I haven't really done anything to it since Christmas. I went straight from putting up Christmas to painting the mudroom! Have a cozy evening! Visit the blog with the link in bio @oursouthernhome Just type in WINTER MANTEL in the search bar.

This New thrift store makeover post almost didn’ This New thrift store makeover post almost didn’t happen! It’s the first one of the new year! I was 1/2 way through the project while simultaneously painting the mud room cabinets. Down on the floor painting lower cabinets and twisted a certain way which did something to my lower back/hip. Ugh!!!! I got it done with the help of @ashlyn_little ⭐️ I couldn’t sleep and currently on heating pad. I’m going to be useless today! Any remedy ideas? I’ve got to get back to painting! I can’t take things in disarray. Lol! I’ll be working on the laptop in bed today I guess and checking out the other projects from my blogging friends! Link in bio and stories to the blog post!

Happy New Year & Wednesday friends! @bentleywestie Happy New Year & Wednesday friends! @bentleywestie here! My grandma has taken a little break from social media and the blog to enjoy time with us before Woods and Ashlyn started classes back at Clemson. Personally...I’m ready to see her get out of sweats and put some makeup on! She did finally get all the Christmas packed away. With the tree gone, I’ve got my other bed back in the den! I think she’s coming off a sugar high. She mentioned that all the Hershey kisses were gone. Oh, well! Things are getting back to normal around here! Maybe they’ll get me a haircut!

You’ll find me here all day in pajamas. That’s You’ll find me here all day in pajamas. That’s right! I’m not doing a darn thing today. I always lounge the day after Christmas to recoup after days of cooking. After Christmas is when I can finally relax a bit and enjoy the beauty of the season. I finally watched Little Women this morning and loved. Now I’m watching season 2 of Virgin River. How are you spending your Saturday? I’ll be getting dressed later this evening for our anniversary dinner. #31years tomorrow! 🥂

I’ll admit, it’s been a busy day of chores, but it’s been extra special because the kids are both home with us. Hunkering in for the evening. Here’s a tip when you’re wanting to feel put together at home. @spanx faux leather leggings work dressed up or down! Add a pair of @isotoner.us ballet slippers and you can fake a ballet flat at home!
