Organized Pantry {never waste food again}

Thanks for sharing!

Happy Monday to you all! I hope you had a wonderful weekend.  We have had very cool temperatures and nonstop rain since Friday.   It will definitely be a blessing come summer.  I believe the weather man said that we were +5 inches for the year so that is great news for our local lakes.

I'd like to share with you how I finally got my act together and organized our pantry pull out drawers.  It has been in desperate need for quite a while.  I guess I kept putting it off because I work so hard to clean it out and it just becomes a mess again!  I saw a post from Blissfully Ever After  on making labels and was inspired to try this out for the drawers.  Maybe, just maybe if they were labeled EVERYONE including me would put things in the proper place.  The biggest problem probably occurs on the day I bring groceries home.  If the kids or hubby help put things away….well it just went everywhere!!!  UGH!  Do you have the same problem?  This is what I finally came up with!  I completed this project in January!  I am happy to report that it is STILL organized today!  I am now on a quest to label everything!

I was positive that I took a before of the mess, but I can't locate it….or maybe I was ashamed and embarrassed! Hopefully, this picture will give you a clue.

This is what the result of a disorganized pantry looks like……multiples of out of date items=wasted money!!!!  Now that everything is organized, I can see at a glance what I need to replace!

It is 2013!  Is this crazy or what????

I removed everything.  I then vacuumed and wiped down all the drawers and fronts.  I thought about how I wanted these drawers organized.  I then began the process of throwing away LOTS of out of date or stale food.  What a shame!  What a waste!  I strive to do better!  I love my P-Touch label maker.  I have had it well over 10 years and it is well worth the money.  Every label does not have to be a pretty work of art.  Honestly, I don't have time for that.  This label maker in most situations is just fine for me, especially for food items like this that gets lots of use.  Here is one that is similar to mine.

Have you seen these plastic bins at Wal-Mart with the handles.  They are great!  I organized our medicine and first aid cabinets with them.  Any kind of basket works great to contain all those packets.

The entire cabinet is cleaned out and organized.  Now it is time for label making fun!
I came across this awesome tutorial for making labels using Pic Monkey on Pinterest.  Go visit the wonderful site Blissfully Ever After for this fun and EASY tutorial!

I placed the pattern on the drawer to make sure it was the size that I wanted before tracing and cutting out on the contact paper.  I was pleased with this one.  It is quite large.  Within the tutorial, you can make them the size to fit your project needs.

I used my Pampered Chef pot scraper to apply the cut out.  I really just eye- balled it based on the center of the scoop handle on the drawer.  This process was very fast!  I then used chalk to write my labels.

This new label method for organizing is great!  No matter who helps put the groceries away, they can easily figure out the proper location.  It also makes finding food a breeze!  TIP:  Save your template!  I've used it several times since then for other organizing projects!
Thanks so much for stopping by!  If you are not already, I'd love for you to follow  Our Southern Home.  I have a new hover Pin It button so you can pin the photos of your choice.

  1. Great job; I love the design of the labels as well. I well remember how difficult it was when we had our girls at home to keep everything organized. I know it will be so much easier for everyone.
