Summer in the Family Room

Thanks for sharing!

Summer in the family room by Our Southern Home sponsored by Balsam Hill

Welcome to summer. It may not be the official start to summer, but school finished yesterday….so it's official in our house! Many thanks to Balsam Hill for sponsoring today's post and this beautiful tour of amazing bloggers. Don't be fooled. Balsam Hill is not just holiday decor and Christmas trees. You'll see exactly what I mean as you visit  24 bloggers this week.

Our family room lends itself to warmer looking colors. I do my best to summerize it with my accessories and flowers from the garden.

This basket had a very different look up until a month ago. Now it has a lovely farmhouse look with its grey and whitewash paint treatment you can find HERE. It was such a simple project and is perfect for adding lighter touches to our family room. A white vase and this vintage oil complete the floral theme for the coffee table. Just a few flower stems with a generous amount of greens fill the vase. I encourage you to plant flowers and plants in your yard that will give you indoor color throughout the growing season…..and you spend zero dollars purchasing flowers.

This little vintage oil is one of my inexpensive treasures. Small artwork pieces are great on tables and small vignettes. Art is not just for walls.

Faux boxwood adds a natural touch to the room. I like fewer accessories in summer for a lighter look. Also less work dusting and more fun outside! Fresh boxwood clippings last forever in containers when the water is changed out regularly

The only changes that I made to the server against the wall is the addition of the plates on the wall. Just changing the plates out to white adds that summer touch to an otherwise darker vignette.

My favorite part of this room has always been the fireplace. Notice I removed my chalkboard from the mantel. I figured y'all were tired of it. I kind of miss it, but so loving the simpler look. Aren't these handcrafted silver leaf candlesticks provided by Balsam Hill gorgeous. They are such a generous size. Notice how I placed a grouping of 3 on the hearth and added 1 to the mantel to carry the look. They come in sets of 2 and are on sale!!!

To brighten them up for summer, I simply added a little moss from my floral craft box around the edges. Easy peasy.

I can't wait to use these in other ways. They would be beautiful with floral spheres at the holidays, mini pumpkins atop in the fall….possibilites are endless.

The silver leaf against the stain is such subtle rustic elegance.

I used one candlestick on the mantle. Honestly, I didn't have an extra candle on hand so I shopped my house. I came up with a wine bottle holder and a moss ball for the top. I really didn't want a candle with the large French Country sconces.

I love how the mantel reflects in the mirror across the room. Again simple touches. An antique glass creamer that was my great grandma's holds more greens and a few rose blooms.

I don't have the heart to put my tole trays away in the summer. They are something I've adored collecting through the years. Simply adding some craft paper covered books wrapped in ribbon and fresh oak leaf hydrangeas creates my summer look. The mercury glass large votive was also provided by Balsam Hill. Guess what…they are on clearance! It will serve as a votive in fall and winter, but is beautiful inserted with a mason jar to house water and becomes a vase.

The ideal room for me contains a balanced mix of new, vintage, repurposed and thrifted items with the occasional antique. This creates my Eclectic French Country Style.  Pinning most appreciated!

    1. It is an old Sherwin Williams color called Tea Leaves. I’m not sure it is still in their line, but I’m sure if you went into a SW store they could look it up for you and make a sample. It’s a lovely green. It’s very warm and earthy! We really loved it. Last spring we repainted the room to Agreeable Gray. Thanks bunches for visiting!

  1. I am not sure if you mentioned it somewhere along the way, but I would love to know what color you have on the walls of your living room? It is so beautiful!

  2. What a welcome look with the green moss around the candles on the candlesticks!  I, too, see the endless possibilities with these candlesticks. I think the silver is the elegance and the distressed finish is the rustic, but they could be pretty dressed up, too. Both areas you placed them really show them off. As for the gold votive, great choice. I can’t believe it’s on clearance either. Great tip on putting it in the mason jar. Thank you for showcasing the product so well.

  3. I love the moss accents you added to those gorgeous shimmery candlesticks – great texture! Your home is beautiful for summer as it always is all year through!! Happy Summer Christy!

  4. Everything looks so beautiful Christy! I love how it all has some sort of meaning to you. And love the greenery everywhere! So perfect for summer!
