Late Summer Breakfast Room

Thanks for sharing!

Friends, the last week has been a blur! It seems like yesterday I was welcoming the kids home from college for the summer. Then…poof they were gone again. We moved our oldest in on Friday and the youngest on Saturday. Those 2 days were beyond long!!!

I'm not sure what it is, but after school starts back I start longing for fall.

It's way too hot to start thinking about pumpkins or all things pumpkin spice…I am in the south. We can have some pretty warm days through October. We have even had some years that we've trick-or-treated in shorts!

I absolutely love the idea for an early fall home tour organized by my blogging friend Amber from Follow the Yellow Brick Home.

I wanted to add a few areas of late summer to early fall touches in our home and was able to accomplish that before my babies took off for college.

If you are visiting me from Amber's site ,Follow the Yellow brick Home, welcome! I absolutely love her home with the vintage and antique touches.

Be sure to follow to the end where you will find links to the other gorgeous homes!

Welcome to our Late Summer Breakfast Room.

I have always felt that the colors in our kitchen area resonate with the fall season.

The table setting could really work for summer, but with simply adding fall colored flowers and copper mugs, you've got instant warmth perfect for late summer.

I've always loved blue and white china, but lately I've become a bit obsessed. I picked this large pitcher up at Tuesday Morning. It has quickly become a favorite!

It's a very simple look. I may just add pumpkins for fall.

Grocery store flowers are my favorite next to cuttings from the yard. If you change the water frequently, they last! These have been on the table a week now and look great!

I'm finding that the older I get the less is more concept works for me. Less to put up, less to store and less to clean! I adore fall and look forward to the season. It will be here before we know it!

    1. Thanks so much! I do not remember the source for the table (2004), but the chairs and bar stools are Hooker furniture.

  1. Your breakfast room is so beautiful! I love the rug, the walls and those hanging trays. You are so right it is already a beautiful canvas for fall decorating!! I could linger over meals at your table for hours!

    1. Thanks so very much, Jess!!! We had those wall done when we built in 2004. I’ve toyed with the thought of doing a very light white was over them to lighten them a bit but leaving the green coming through, but hubby was a definite no. We do love them.

  2. Christy, I bet your home feels empty with the kids back to college – a mixed emotion kind of event. Here’s hoping they have a great year. Your breakfast room really appeals to me for the open concept, yet cozied up with the traditional rug and tole trays on the wall. Copper is definitely a choice metal for fall, and you’re segueing nicely into it, while still keeping it summer fresh with the blue and white. Cheers to the coming season of changes!

    1. Thanks so very much, Rita! On a happy note, my daughter messaged me last night about wanting to have her college tennis team stop by for dinner late September after they go hiking nearby! I’m excited to have a house full even if for an evening. Gets me a little excited to officially decorate for fall.

  3. Hi Christy, what a wonderful welcoming dining spot. Your wood walls and ceiling are perfect for a casual family gathering. Loving the gorgeous vintage accents like those Tole trays and Blue Transferware. I’m heading off to check out more posts of your beautiful home!

  5. Christy,
Ahhh… a French Country breakfast table set for fall! The blue and white vase filled with fresh flowers, the preserved boxwood wreaths, and the beautiful chairs are so warm and inviting. Your breakfast area has timeless appeal that says,” Welcome, friends and family.”

  6. Christy your breakfast room is just beautiful, and I agree it has a fallish feel, but it is still looking fresh for late summer. The copper mugs are perfect for August. I am in love with your Tole painted trays on the wall, and I also spied some beautiful vintage plates and platters on the wall leading into the living room or family room, and I caught a glimpse of a pretty farmhouse style tool box under the little console table with the mug rack.
Even though I do have a lot of vintage collectibles, like you I am getting to the point where I want to do less is more as far as commercial holiday decor goes and just use what I have around the house in new ways with some seasonal florals added in.
It is still so hot here in Kentucky. We have also worn shorts on Halloween, but we have also had a couple of Halloween’s with s Jack-o-lanterns covered with light snow, so you just never know. It won’t really start cooling down here until late September.

I really enjoyed your pretty breakfast room tour! Thanks so much for joining us for this fun round of home tours. Enjoy the beauty of this transitional time of year!

    1. Thanks so very much, Amber! The little plates leading into the family room were my keepsakes that I brought back from France about 19 years ago! That console table and tool box were thrift store finds that got a little makeover. Yes, I love how simple adding floral can easily change the look of the season. I keep telling myself less is more. The thought of dragging everything out of the attic the older I get becomes more and more daunting, but do love it.

  7. I think I have said it before, your breakfast room is the most beautiful in blogland! I am so thankful that you haven’t changed it too much!
    Blessings,
    J

    1. Thanks so much! We built in 2004, but have since painted the sheetrock walls gray and the moldings creamy white. We will most likely never touch the ceiling or pickled paneled walls!

  8. Christy, what a warm and welcoming room. Love the new pitcher from Tuesday Morning! I also spied those gorgeous tins hanging on your wall. 🙂 Love them too! Fun getting to join this hop with you!
    hugs,
