11 Best Electric Throw Blankets

Why I Love an Electric Blanket

I am always cold, especially in the colder months. The winter can be really bad for me. I am not sure that I could ever truly live in a very cold climate.

It's not uncommon for me to wear a toboggan or gloves in the house.

Sometimes the only thing that will really warm me up is to get under my electric throw blanket.

I'm not talking about the big electric blankets for the full bed, but a throw that is portable and you can carry around like Linus from the Peanuts.

I currently have 2 electric throw blankets, but I'm on the hunt for 1 more. I keep one in the bedroom and one in the family room. I want to add one more in the upstairs media area so it's always handy there.

We keep the thermostat at a normal temperature, it's just me.

When it is really cold, I'll put it on top of me when I go to sleep.

A plus is that Bentley and Jack love it so they like to cuddle with me.

We always laugh because the first time I pull that blanket out and use it for the first time, Bentley literally comes running. He KNOWS it's that favorite blanket of his.

I have never seen a dog that likes to be so warm and toasty.

Electric throw blankets make a fabulous gift!

What To Look For

Here are a few things to look for when selecting a heated throw.

  • washable
  • a cord that removes from the blanket for washing
  • varying heat temps
  • auto shut-off after so many hours (mine shuts off after I've been asleep at night so it doesn't run all night)

Color and Pattern

Be on the lookout while shopping. Now is the time that retailers will start getting in a new stock of electric throws. I have seen them at Sam's so I am sure Costco has them as well.

There are so many options for electric throw blankets to keep you warm.

You can find traditional style throw blankets all the way to faux fur options. There are numerous color options as well as patterns such as florals, animal print, and plaids.

I picked a few of my favorites from Amazon for you. I love Amazon. The convenience of Prime shipping and returns makes it a no-brainer for us.

Caring for Your Blanket

Always carefully read the care instructions for your electric throw blanket. Many have them printed on the blanket.

I opt for one that has a long cord that detaches from the blanket itself. You will want to remove it when laundering.

I typically let mine air dry over the top railing of the staircase. If it needs a little fluffing, I'll put it in the dryer for like 5 minutes on low heat with a (my exact ones) dryer ball and a little lavender oil. I haven't used dryer sheets for a while now. It's mainly to not have the waste of a dryer sheet, but this is an interesting article about dryer sheets.
