Pottery Barn inspired Diner sign tutorial created with materials on-hand by Our Southern Home. #rockyourknockoff #knockoff

I am so excited to be participating with a few of my blogging friends in my first Knock Off project!

Be sure to see the other projects at the end of the post!

I've been wanting something above the cow in our kitchen for a while.

I was inspired to create the DINER sign by Pottery Barn.

Pottery Barn sells theirs for $59. Mine cost nothing because I already had the supplies.

I had this leftover piece of wood from the chalkboard menu board that I recently made. It's just a piece of plywood. It is 48 inches long and 9 inches wide.

After printing the letters, I taped them together 2 inches apart.

I painted the board in Everlasting by Americana Decor Chalky Finish Paints.

I centered the font on the board and taped it in place. I also folded over the sides so I could find the exact spot if it came away from the board. I did this first because with the next step, I wanted to place in the correct spot so I wouldn't transfer over any of the oil pastels unnecessarily.

I then turned the paper over to the wrong side and traced the backside of the letters very roughly with oil pastels.

Flip it back over and carefully place back on the board centered. I then trace the letters and the oil pastels leaves an outline. You can find the full tutorial for my font transfer method HERE.

I'm left with my traced letters. Just fill in with paint. I used a flat artist brush and painting in Relic by Americana Decor Chalky Finish Paints.

After I painted the letters, I just eyed it and applied painter's tape for 2 thin pin stripes in Relic as well.

I measured a piece of painters tape 8 inches long and placed it on a piece of cardstock. I cut it out and used as a template to trace. This was faster that taping off stripes on the sides.

All of the painting is complete. I then lightly distressed and wiped away all the dust with a dry cloth.

Before distressing

Using Americana Decor Chalky Finish products I applied clear and then dark wax. You can see the waxing method and tips HERE. These paints and waxes are so affordable and can be found at Home Depot, Hobby Lobby, Michaels and AC Moore.

The dark wax really gives and aged, vintage look.

After I did my first knock off, I thought this was so easy…I created a fabulous project with no thought required since it was someone else’s idea…just call it a knock off ha ha. It’s a wonder I don’t do more of them. Yours is perfect! XO

I love you sign–great job! I have the Americana Dark Wax but haven’t tried it yet. So far I’ve painted a TV stand, two Night Stands, and a side table with Americana Chalky paints. On a few, I just sprayed on satin Poly. But on the side table I used the Americana varnish on the top (where things will sit), and then I sprayed poly on the legs–both out of laziness and to stretch my varnish so I have plenty for other projects.

I love the Americana Chalky paint and accompanying products. So, SO glad for a company to produce this kind of paint/wax/varnish at an affordable price!!!!!

Y'all know all that molding and trim that I've been tackling. It's so time-consuming but has a big reward. Fresh paint works wonders in a space. We've got a beautiful weekend ahead here in the south. Hoping to enjoy a little time in the yard before the pollen starts setting in.

🌸 Do yourself a favor, when you go to the grocery store....pick up some fresh flowers. They are inexpensive and instantly brighten your day. Change out the water every couple of days and most will last a week. Cut a little off the stems as well.

👁 I recently had an eye appointment. My doc wrote a prescription for me to get progressive readers. Folks, She said that I need 2.5s! I’m in a 1.75. It’s such a pain. Here’s my question. I can no longer pluck my eyebrows with my magnifying mirror! 🤣 The 52 struggle is real! What’s a girl to do? Become Bert or go to the salon. I don’t wax because it’s too irritating. @ashlyn_little offered to pluck them! 🤣 Anyone else in the same boat?

I have not been this excited about the weekend sin I have not been this excited about the weekend since last weekend! Ha, ha! Happy Friday! No big plans here, but I’m still trying to dress up for a date night in on the weekend. We’ve been eating a lot in the dining room lately. It’s a cozy space with the twinkle lights that I don’t have the heart
to take down. It’s like feeling like we are in an actual restaurant opposed to the daily meals at the kitchen table. Just that little extra effort makes a difference. #ad

Loving these separates from @lovechicos This lightweight chevron sweater is perfect for now and spring. The lines are so slimming with the flowy ¾ length sleeve. Guess what! My So Slimming Girlfriend Jeans are on sale now thru February 25th! All full-priced jeans are $59!

Been watching the news before cooking dinner and e Been watching the news before cooking dinner and enjoying a glass of wine. It’s heartbreaking seeing what’s going on in Texas. The people, the animals....I pray that everyone finds warmth, food and water tonight. It makes me look ahead to warmer days and carefree times of summer. This photo was last summer....I’m ready for outdoor weather. 🙏

Never regret anything that made you smile. – Mar Never regret anything that made you smile. – Mark Twain

I’ve been on a no sugar or anything processed lifestyle change going on 7 weeks except for that weekend cheat meal. Spent an afternoon doing a little shopping and indulging in a vanilla chai latte with my daughter, and it made my day! No regrets on the sweet splurge. #ad

This outfit with pieces from @lovechicos has been on repeat the last couple of weeks! I don’t tend to wear bright colors like this in the winter but let me tell you…. this sweater changed my mind! I am sharing 4 fun looks on the blog today with some of my favorite @lovechicos pieces. #lovechicos

These So Slimming Girlfriend jeans are the only ones I reach for these days. They work with boots, heels, flats and sneakers.
