Fit Tip

The above jean shorts are great in white. I orginally bought mine from Nordstrom, but sold out there. They are Kut from the Kloth and I found them on Amazon. I typically size up in white denim. I got these in a 10 and could have gone with my regular 8. I don't mind them being a little loose for comfort. The linen top is Madewell from last year. I got it at Nordstrom Rack. Quince has a similar version that I have lined above.

It’s been a full and joyful few weeks around here! We just got back from a wonderful week at Caswell Beach with our crew—kids, their spouses, dogs, and sweet Phoebe in tow. There’s something so special about slow mornings and salty air with the ones you love.

Back at home, we’ve made a little lifestyle shift that we’re enjoying: eating our big meal at lunch and keeping things light for dinner. It’s been such a refreshing change—perfect for summer days when you want to keep evenings easy and relaxed. We plan to do this Monday-Thursday.

This Week on the Blog

decor on screened porch

Yesterday, I posted a look at some of our porch photos and shared tips on bringing the indoors out.

On Monday, you can find a brand new tour of our front porch and the surrounding garden areas on the blog.

In the Kitchen

steak, potatoes and fresh corn

Monday lunch was leftover flank steak, mashed potatoes, and corn on the cob. I need to write up a recipe for this steak. The trick to tender flank steak is marinating it days ahead. I marinated Friday to eat on Sunday evening. I place cross-hatch cuts on each side. I then dump things into a bowl to make a marinade: olive oil, cooking wine, Worcestershire sauce, soy sauce, fresh garlic, assorted herbs chopped from my garden, and a few dashes of hot sauce. I salt and pepper it liberally, then place the steak in a bag with the marinade. I did 2 bags since I was doing 2 large steaks. I got the 2-pack of flank steak at Sam's Club.

plate of pasta, salad and tomatoes

Tuesday lunch was leftover pasta from he weekend. This was a new recipe that I adapted for 2, plus I added bacon bits to it. It was extremely good!

New recipe here as well for Wednesday lunch! This was quite the surprise. This Chicken Buratta will be on the rotation. I adapted it for 2. You can find my cookware here. This is the best cast iron!

tilapia, potatoes and broccoli

Thursday's lunch was super light. I get these tilapia fillets at Costco in the frozen section. They are really good. They are thicker and hold their shape well. Here is the recipe for this dish.

nibble plate with goat cheese

Each night we shared this nibbles plate for dinner. We buy a log of plain goat cheese at Sam's. I sprinkle a bit of salad topping on it and drizzle it with honey.

The Look

Fit Tip

This dress is from last season. They do not have the same style, but offer this similar pattern in other pieces. I am wearing a size medium in it. The blazer is several years old from Chico's. It is so worth the investment. The sleeves are ruched and 3/4. I wear this all the time. Its the perfect way to make a sundress appropriate for church. I plan to take this look on our fall trip to Spain and Portugal. I can wear it casully during the day with sneakers and dress it up at night with a blazer. I will not be taking heels. I have this blazer in a size 1.

Fit Tip

I get compliments everytime I wear this dress. I own it in black and the baby blue. I am wearing a size medium. It's such a classic look and I always feel polished in it.

Random Things

orange cats

Tim and Ashlyn have adopted another stray kitten from an old barn. He was about 4 weeks old. They've had him for 3 weeks now. Sully is overjoyed to have a new brother, Frankie. We will have them next weekend while they are out of town.

dogs on a couch

Theo has the thought process that if Bentley can get on the couch, so can he! They are watching my hubby in the backyard.

chinoiserie balls with lemons

This has been my summer centerpiece on the kitchen table. It is filled with 2 sets of chinoiserie balls with a few real lemons. They are on sale!!!!!

thrift store finds

I stopped in our local Miracle Hill and spent $15 on this haul. The shirt is a men's large, and I plan to wear it.

What I'm Reading

I love to read AND listen to books. If you are looking for a way to get more steps in with your walking…..listen to books! You will want to keep walking to listen. I also listen while doing chores around the house. I will use my earbuds while walking, While in the house I will use a Bluetooth speaker that I can carry around with me or our Alexa.

I read actual printed books as well as on Kindle. I prefer my Kindle, but holding a real book occasionally is nice.

I've had my Audible membership for a while, and LOVE it! It gives me one book credit per month.

Let me share how I read on Kindle and listen to books. Get yourself a library card!

Then add the LIBBY and HOOPLA apps to your phone.

I will typically check to see if a book is available there first before using my credit or buying. Using these 2 apps with your library card is FREE!!! I love FREE.

There may be a waitlist if it is a newer title or popular. That's ok. Sometimes the wait can be lengthy. If I'm not willing to wait, I will just purchase. If it is new or popular, you NEED to finish the book in the allowed checkout time. Sometimes you can renew, and sometimes you may have to get back in the queue. If that happens, when it is available again…..it will download where you left off.

Get in the habit of always carrying a book with you to get in a little extra time. That way if you are waiting at the doctor's office or to get your car serviced….you are prepared!

What We've Bought

  • We are going to Spain and Portugal the first of October. I am starting to think ahead to what I will be packing. The days can be in the 70s and the evening lows can be in the 50s. I will be layering. I love the color of this tencel dress. It is perfect to wear now, but will be a pretty fall color as well. I'll be able to add a cardigan or even a blazer with it. I'll share it with you as soon as it comes in.
  • I have these slides in brown. This year, I added them in gold. You can also find them on Amazon with Prime shipping.
  • I saw this top on another influencer and ordered. I'll let you know when it comes in.
  • Theo loves this tennis ball launcher. He has a lot of energy, and this helps us!
  • I left my pillow on vacation! UGH!!! I ordered this as a similar replacement. It's not just like mine, but I have been sleeping well this week.
  • Catch Phrase is a wonderful travel game. It takes up little space, and you can play sitting on the couch.
  • Ordered a set of the Zevo refills. They do work well!
  • Enjoying my new watchband in the gold and silver style.

What Caught My Eye

Here are a few things that have caught my eye!

Thinking ahead to our fall trip. I plan to order this twin set before then in brown. The cashmere tee and matching cardigan will be very versatile.

I came across this gorgeous website with lovely inspiration from Bria Hammel Interiors. What a gorgeous design firm! When you have time to sit and look, be sure to check out her portfolio. Extremely talented!

Architectural Digest has a few photos from Nancy Meyers' gorgeous home. This is her back patio. It's simply breathtaking.

Thank you so much for being here today with me! I hope your weekend is joyful. XO, Christy
