Saturdays on the Porch

I hope you had a wonderful Thanksgiving. We celebrated at my mom's house. I took the cornbread dressing, mashed potatoes, and homemade cranberry sauce.

Both of the kids were there as well with their spouses. It was a really nice evening.

We are not in-store Black Friday shoppers. I don't find the crowds and traffic fun at all.

We did order a few things online that are featured below. I finished decorating the front porch.

While my husband watched back-to-back sporting events, I watched back-to-back holiday movies. I checked a few off of my movie list that you can print HERE.

I also watched these 2 new holiday movies:

  • The Noel Diary (Netflix)
  • Holiday Harmony (HBO)
  • I started Falling for Christmas (Netflix)

The Look

Ashlyn and I recently completed a campaign with Birdies for Instagram. It should be live over there this next week. I wanted to go on and share it over here with you because we both LOVE these velvet flats. They have a sale going on right now.

They are true to size for both of us. I love them so much that my husband ordered the animal print flats for me yesterday for Christmas.

I also have these Birdies sneakers which are also true to size. I wear them all the time. They are a dressier sneaker that really elevates a look!

Green is my favorite color and these go with so much! The variation in the fabric really goes with all tones of green.

Ashlyn chose the taupe color. They go with so much. She's worn them most days to work this week.

I love them with jeans! I've gotten so many compliments on them. I really want these for the holidays and all winter. They'd look so cute with jeans.

Even the inside of the shoes is worthy of a photo! Aren't they stunning? The quilted padding is so cozy. Neither of us had any break-in period with the flats.

Favorite Look of the Week

FIT TIP: Sneakers are true to size 8. The Walmart leggings are a medium and I could have possibly worn a small. They are so comfortable. I did have to roll the length under slightly. The tunic is a medium. I could have worn a small, but don't mind the fit to wear with leggings. The cardigan is a small with generous arm length.

Happenings

We kept Sully last weekend. This is a quick shot of him chasing Jack. Sully is 5 pounds now and Jack is a solid 17. It's hilarious. He is totally smitten with Jack. Jack….not so much.

I made a turkey stock yesterday with the leftover turkey carcass, veggies, and spices. It simmered for about 6 hours. I plan to make turkey soup with it tomorrow. It will be nice with the expected rain.

What I'm Reading

I love to read AND listen to books. If you are looking for a way to get more steps in with your walking…..listen to books! You will want to keep walking to listen. I also listen while doing chores around the house. I will use my earbuds while walking, While in the house I will use a Bluetooth speaker that I can carry around with me or our Alexa.

I read actual printed books as well as on Kindle. I prefer my Kindle, but it is nice to hold a real book occasionally.

I've had my Audible membership for a while, and LOVE it! It gives me one book credit per month.

Let me share with you how I read on Kindle and listen to books as well. Get yourself a library card!

Then add the LIBBY and HOOPLA apps to your phone.

I will typically check to see if a book is available there first before using my credit or buying. Using these 2 apps with your library card is FREE!!! I love FREE.

There may be a waitlist if it is a newer title or popular. That's ok. Sometimes the wait can be lengthy. If I'm not willing to wait, I will just purchase. If it is new or popular, you NEED to finish the book in the allowed checkout time. Sometimes you can renew, and sometimes you may have to get back in the queue. If that happens, when it is available again…..it will download where you left off.

Get in the habit of always carrying a book with you to get in a little extra time. That way if you are waiting at the doctor's office or to get your car serviced….you are prepared!

It was my goal to read more than 12 books last year, and I completed that task. Check out that list which has been updated with my thoughts on the books. Here is my list for 2024. This is the list of definites for the year. I have a goal of 36 books this year. I will sprinkle in lots of audiobooks as well.

  • I am currently reading Christmas at the Island Hotel. This takes place on a small island between Scotland and Norway. I am enjoying this book. It's by the same author as this book that I read last Christmas.
  • I have also started Girl, Forgotten.
  • I just finished listening to the book From Scratch. It is a new Netflix series. I'm looking forward to watching it.
  • I just finished reading The Good House. I really like it!
  • If you are looking for a new Christmas book to read, check out this roundup from last year. I need to make a new one for this year.
  • I just finished my first Christmas read of the season. If you love quilting, you'll like this one. I didn't realize that it is a series, but that did not affect me jumping in this late into it…..The Christmas Boutique.

What We've Bought

What Caught My Eye

These window candles are amazing! I saw a blogger friend share them and immediately ordered. While my old ones were fine, they just weren't bright enough with the trees and how far our house is from the road. These are bright and flicker. They use 4 double A batteries.

I bought 2 sets of candles. I plan to leave them up all winter. I just love the glow.

Chico's has these wildly popular gold-coated jeans again this year. I LOVE them! They can be dressed up or down.

Thank you so much for being here today with me! I hope your weekend is joyful. XO, Christy
