Thrift Store Desktop Organizer
I love the hunt….you know the kind that might involve dust, dirt and a little grime. You know…the thrift store!
It's time for another thrift store makeover.
Along with this group of talented ladies, I'm sharing my challenge for the month: A desktop Organizer
I purchased this piece at the Restore in Southport, NC last Labor Day weekend. It has been sitting waiting to be turned into something fresh. Something that is worthy of moving into the house.
I bought a small bag of small appliques at the craft store and just glued one with wood glue to cover up the hole at the top. It was probably used to hang it on a wall.
I then spray painted the organizer with 2 coats of white spray paint with a built-in primer with a flat finish.
I distressed just the edges with my palm sander. Notice that I used the same hardware. I really wanted to use card catalog pulls and still may replace them if I ever come across them cheap! The ones I saw online were $7 and up. Nope!
Now it really reminds me of those expensive pieces form Pottery Barn and Ballard.
I applied one coat of clear wax and buffed to a slight sheen.
The little drawers are perfect for holding office supplies.
It would also be handy in a craft or sewing room.
You could even use it to store jewelry.

Great ideas here, I love the tip about the focus on doors. They can make such a dramatic difference, yet I never would have thought of it, thanks.
Thanks!
I absolutely LOVE the what You did with the little box–LOVE the little white drawer handles–I think that you should keep it like that!! It looks amazing!!
Thanks so much, Mary Ellen! I am still using it to this day on my desk. It’s great for office supplies!
This turned out beautifully. What a difference the paint made.
Thanks so much!!!
This is just lovely! I would never think of having a desktop organizer before but now I am in love! I really like the clean design and that the paint on the edges is a bit scratched – like this it looks really stylish! Thank you for sharing!
I love it! What a find and great job restoring it!

So cute Christy… I love it all creamy white!
Lovely! I got some of the tiny catalogue pulls from eBay (UK) but I think they came from China and they cost just pennies!
Thanks so much!! I didn’t think about eBay. I’ll check there. 🙂
So cute, and perfect for all of those tiny desk accessories that I may or may not having lying around cluttering up my desk! 😉 Pinning!!
Thanks so much, Kim!!! You know how one project leads to many more. I’ve decided to redo my office/mudroom space! LOL!
This is Darling Christy! I agree, those pulls can get very expensive, looks great as it is. ~Sonya
Thanks so much, Sonya! Hated for the pulls to be more than what I paid for the piece. LOL!
