Simply Southern Outdoor Dining

Thanks for sharing!

Spring is in the air!

As well as the pollen! I'm not sure how bad it is where you are, but we don't even think of using the screened porch until May. I must say that I am giddy at the thought of warmer evenings because we are a family that loves outdoor living!

I am so excited this week to be participating in The Scoop's Spring Tablescape Event with a group of lovely bloggers! Be sure to visit the entire list found below!

Our patio area is pretty easy to remove the pollen from consistently. When I knew that I was participating in this event, Simply Southern Outdoor Dining came to mind. Spring in the south can be very unpredictable, but the day that I set up this outdoor spot, it was so warm and sunny! I couldn't believe that this was the first time that I had shared an outdoor dining area.

Spring is such a busy time for us between varsity soccer and varsity golf for both of our high schoolers so I try to keep decor and entertaining ideas very simple. After all of the holiday extravaganzas, it is so refreshing to do light and airy!

I picked up this lovely Waverly tablecloth at Marshall's several weeks ago knowing I would use it here.

You have seen a lot of these sage green placemats! That's OK in my book….I've gotten my money's worth out of them! I can't tell you how much I love using this thrift store ironstone! It has been one of my favorite finds!

This is so easy and would make a great little favor. I have a set of small mason jars that I use all the time for all kinds of uses! I simply wrapped them a few times in jute twine and tucked the ends into the twine (nothing permanent to the jar). Then purchased a 6 pack of white begonias. I placed 1 begonia in each jar….and I was done!

This iron rooster used to be a kitchen table centerpiece in our last house. It has been gathering dust in the potting shed for 10 years now. I had to really clean him up! I just lined it with a few cloth napkins and filled it with garden center containers left in the original pots. The napkins hide the pots. After the party is over, I will simply transplant them into my empty patio pots! The wicker tray was a recent $2 thrift store find.

I love adding herbs in with my regular flowers. I cook with fresh herbs all summer and fall from our garden, so it is so convenient to have them handy in pots as I walk out of the kitchen onto the patio.

Rocky is so not happy that I made him get out of his chair for the photos! He has been patient long enough!

These babies are just happy to be out in the warm sunshine!

  1. Christy, I know you posted this almost 10 years ago now, but I think this tablesetting is timeless. Your pets look happy to be outside. Hope they are all doing well, but I know it has been a bunch of years. Fun to see these older posts! Just coming over from the Pinterest Challenge here in November with Cindy from County Road 407.

    Happy holidays!

  3. Christy,
What a beautiful table set outside in the South! Seeing your woods in the background makes me homesick for Alabama.

The wrought iron table and chairs also remind me of the Deep South so much. I love how you used bedding plants as individual guest flowers and in the delightful rooster centerpiece. So many inspiring ideas for setting a table.

I am excited to be part of the Spring Tablescape tour with you this week.

  4. What a lovely outdoor dining space. I have been eager for the warm weather to hang around and we ate outside for the first time last week. I could not wait to try out our new table and chairs. Now I am thinking of setting up an outdoor bar where people who smoke or drink can hang out, away from the folks who are eating and chatting. We are all ready for some serious fun in the sun!

  9. Love the Rooster centerpiece.. Placing the begonias in the Mason Jars was a good idea and your guest could take them home and plant them in their own flowerbed or pots..Ever think of painting the rooster..the colors of a rooster? Aren’t roosters usually multi-colors? I’m drawing a blank this morning on colors of one. and my mind is thinking about Rhode Island reds but those aren’t roosters I don’t think. Oh well, you’ll figure it out!

    1. Thanks so much, Betty! No plans to paint the rusty iron rooster. I like the neutrality of it it use with different flowers and such! Happy spring!!! ~Christy
