Vogue magazine best defines a A gallery wall as “an easy way of displaying all those things that matter the most—family portraits, unforgettable trips, treasured letters.”

In my opinion a gallery wall should be composed of 3 or more pieces.

All month, my plan was to turn this boring staircase wall with one large oil into a beautiful show stopping gallery wall.  It just didn't happen. When I pulled together all of my thrift store pieces, I just didn't have enough. My original thought was to mix different things here. I then decided that just wouldn't work. I want to try to keep the space all in an oil type of theme. That can get very pricey unless you know some secrets

My husband gave me this beautiful oil for birthday, Christmas and Anniversary. Yeah, don't know what we were thinking. All three of those are 4 days apart!

Believe it or not you can find some oil and oil look art in thrift stores and consignment shops at really great prices. I'll share more of that on down a bit further. When you hang these together they all blend in and give the illusion of a completely cohesive oil painting gallery wall. I'll use a couple of bigger pieces and fill in with mid-sized pieces. Keep reading for the tips!

I'd love to have this come together by Christmas!

So since I failed you with a big wow project, I thought I'd share a few of my gallery walls.

I apologize for the early days of blogging photos. Gallery walls can have a mixture of elements. It doesn't just have to be framed art. Think outside the box. In Ashlyn's nursery, she had these lovely window treatment finials. They wouldn't work in this house, and I knew one day I'd have a use. I turned them into a faux rabbit mount for the gallery wall. A little way to keep a bit of her younger days as a memory in her teen room.

This is my newest gallery wall posted just yesterday. It is a work in progress. I hope to collect more ironstone to continue down the sides. You can see how I transformed the mirror HERE.

A collection a tole trays paired with transferware makes a stunning backdrop for the guest room headboard. The majority of the trays were found on eBay.

One of these days, I need to tackle completing this room. It is honestly rarely used as a guest room. With one going away to college in the fall, I'm considering replacing the bed with a day bed and turning it into my home office. The daybed can act as a couch, but double as a bed if there is ever a need.

In the same room, I have this mini gallery wall of photos and silhouettes of the kiddos from those precious younger days.

In the breakfast area, I have more tole trays grouped in threes on either side of the window. All of these were found on eBay at a pretty great price.

If you search small vintage oils on eBay, you can buy them in sets really cheap. The top 3 were purchased as a set. The 2 larger ones were purchased individually.

This oil was found in a consignment shop for under $20 in the frame. Oils look great paired with inexpensive silver trays (roughly $3 or less) found in the thrift store. Let them tarnish away! It adds to the vintage look. They are easily hung with Command strips.

This oil over our bed was also found on eBay. I have found a great shop there where you can get the oil canvases dirt cheap!!! Under $20, many times under $10. You just have to get a frame shop to stretch and frame it. I have a couple of small ones that I'm going to try to do myself for that staircase wall.  You can read all about it in my post HERE. Plates above really make it look special in my opinion. Plates can be affordably found in thrift stores, TJ Maxx and HomeGoods.
