2018 Fall Home Tour
It may still feel like summer, but I am anxiously awaiting the arrival of fall temps. This week, I've been glued to the Weather Channel watching all thing Hurricane Florence. Our family beach house is on Caswell Beach on Oak Island, NC. This is in the Wilmington area if you are following those ominous black dots on the TV showing likely landfall.
We hired a handy many that has done some work for us to move all of the outdoor furniture inside. Furniture outside poses a tremendous risk to others, your home and the homes of others during storms like this. Hopefully, our little cottage will survive the storm. The last major hurricane damage that we had there was in 1996. It came in on the marsh side and removed the entire backside of the roof. It was a mess. Unfortunately, we couldn't go to help. Woods was due soon and the doctor would not let me travel. I would have been no help anyway! Prayers to all in her path.
Last weekend, I got serious about fall decorating, and had lots of fun creating new looks this year. This is the first fall with our wall color change. We are loving the Agreeable Gray. It is so much easier to photograph.
If you are visiting from Carmel at Our Fifth House, welcome. Carmel is also a fellow South Carolinian out of Charleston. I adore her style and fun use of color!
A huge thank you for Marty from A Stroll Thru Life for organizing our tour each and every season. I honestly look forward to it. I am always inspired beyond belief!
This is a long post, so be sure to stay for the end to get the list of links to view the other tours!
I decided to use the same pillows gray floral pillows that I used in my summer tour. I absolutely love them. I warmed them up by changing the coordinating pillow to a peacock teal velvet. They were a 2 pack pillow cover steal on Amazon. I am happy with the quality!
We built our home in 2004 and love it to this day! We are starting to update paint colors. This room was much overdue.
The former couches are now upstairs in the media room. These couches were used in my staging business. They serve the purpose for now with the look I was hoping to achieve. We hope to update these down the road.
All of these colors are in our oriental rug. As much as I'd like to update this rug, my husband refuses and I haven't pressed the issue. It's something I can live with. We purchased it about 25 years ago. It is very large and is hand-knotted wool and silk. It cost a small fortune and it here to stay. There are so many colors in the rug that I love. I make it work.
A great selection of real pumpkins is nowhere in sight at the time. I gave up a while back and just go faux all the way. I'll add real pumpkins to the front porch as soon as they are available.
Rustic with a little bit of glam is my look.
Every fall, I pull out my late mother-in-law's brown transferware.
Simply placing a single pumpkin here and there is enough for me.
This table used to have a plaid silk table skirt. I updated it to this cream one this summer. Really changes the look.
I've had these velvet pumpkins for years. They are just so pretty!
The family room opens up to my favorite room! This Southern Living house plan stole our hearts with the large, family kitchen. We spend so much time in here.
I kept the same look for this tablescape from late summer to fall. I added sunflowers and a couple of pumpkins.
This rug was a vintage findon eBay for around $100. It is my favorite rug in the house! It's worn in all the right places.
Copper just sings fall!
I've really enjoyed keeping the kitchen table set. It encourages us to eat at the table! Being empty nesters, Max and I have gotten bad about eating and watching Netflix!
I just replaced our kitchen faucet. Yes, you heard that right! I did it by myself with a YouTube video here and there. I need to replace the soap dispenser.
This little corner of the counter has always be central station for seasonal vignettes. I always use some sort of tray to easily slide it out-of-the-way for cooking.
Yes, I still have that bare wall back there where the china cabinet used to be. We sold the set and bought this set late winter. I hope to have the antique armoire in here for my Christmas tour. No pinkie promises, but finger crossed!
My hubby works from home and his gorgeous, yet messy office ruins so many shots for me!
The teals and blues coordinate with the toile window treatments.
Fall is the perfect time to bring out my mother's leaf and berry china from when my parents got married in the early 60s.
I'll be adding some real pumpkins and mums to the porch soon. Here is the post on the Embroidery Hoop Wreath!
The above video is a Facebook Live of my tour! Be sure to also follow on Facebook!

I just noticed that you have a place in Oak Island. I’m from Pennsylvania and we vacationed there for over 20 years. My dad loved it so much and he died in 2013 and it has just been too painful for us to go back there without him. But I feel we need to honor him by going back. My husband really misses it so I think we need to start thinking about it again!
I am so sorry to hear that about your dad. You should go back! He would love that…..reminisce about the times shared there and work to create new memories. It’s a beautiful place!!!
Christy, I am relatively new to your blog and had not had the pleasure of touring your home. I am speechless! What a beautiful home. The architectural features (like that magnificent archway between your living and dining rooms) are wonderful but your taste in furnishings and decorating make it special. What a great job you’ve done making it yours. There’s nothing cookie-cutter about this home and it’s a refreshing breath of air. Kudos!! Thanks so much for inspiring the Fall in us (even those of us in Miami battling 95 degrees temps).
Maggie,
What a sweet comment! Thanks so very much. I’m a total homebody so It’s a pleasure decorating. 🙂
Hi Christy! Your home looks beautiful as always! I Love your beautiful fireplace so much!
Christy it is all so beautiful! I just love your home. Loving your touches of blue and teal for early fall. Crushing on all your beautiful pillows!
I am so happy to be touring with you this week. I hope you have been safe during the hurricane!
Happy fall sweet friend!
I very much enjoyed your home tour (came back a few times!) You call it rustic with a touch of glam – but I see a little bit of traditional with a very fresh and creative touch ! And it’s beautifully done! Thank you for some fresh ideas and inspiration!
Thanks so very much, Kristine!
Your home’s always a favorite! I have to go back and forth many times admiring the architectural features and your beautiful decor.
your home is beautiful as always- love all your fall touches! so fun being on the tour with you this week. Have a wonderful weekend.
Your home is so beautiful! I love the hutch you styled for Fall, well, and everything else too!
Christy,
Southern Living floor plans have been my favorites for decades. Your herringbone brick fireplace surround is beautiful and still looks up-to-date, definitely was not a trend when you installed it. All of your furniture is timeless as well and I especially like your French Country style table, chairs, and hutch. Lovely Fall tour!
Judith
It’s all so lovely! I especially love your front porch and those huge ferns! Prayers to all of those in the path of the huricane. I hope your vacation home escapes any major damage.
Your house is so festive! Thanks so much for the beautiful fall tour.
Where did you get your adorable faux white and blue pumpkins?
Thanks for a great post!
Most are from Walmart and then I painted them!
gurl…… you have outdone yourself! every fall detail looks beautiful .
Christy, your home is so full of inspiration. I love your style and your home is so full of beautiful architecture too. Your kitchen is a favorite, I would spend most of my time there for sure. Thanks so much for joining the tour, so much fun to have you and see your home.
I love your home and decorating style. It is so very warm and welcoming. Beautiful fall decor ! Your oriental rugs are gorgeous and timeless!
Thanks so very much, Sandra! I love our rugs. I know they aren’t the norm in home decor these days, but as you said….they are timeless!
