Santos Angel Makeover

How-to details for painting a Santos Angel to take it from dark to a more updated white with soft gold accents.

We'be been cleaning out our home since Covid hit last spring. I've been a bit of a madwoman about it.

Ashlyn has sold lots of things on Facebook Marketplace. Believe me when I say one man's junk is another's treasure.

Ashlyn always had the faith that something would sell, and she sold it for more than I would have ever thought!

I think she has made over $1,000 from cleaned out closets and such.

This Santos angel was in our donate pile. I've been purging and going with that less is more thing.

I've been a bit apprehensive about thrifting lately with the rise of Covid so I decided to give this angel a little love for this challenge.

I haven't used her for several years. So instead of donating her, I decided to freshen her up a bit.

Paint really does miracles.

I encourage you to really look at your holiday decor as you unpack it. Maybe there is something you could work some magic on.

Santos Angel | White Chalky Finish Spray Paint | Spray Paint Handle

Chalky Finish spray paint in white is perfect for decor like this. It gives you a finish very close to what is already on it. I use satin finish paint on ceramics.

I painted 3 light coats on her. At some point, hold her upside down and spray the areas that were missed.

gold paint on a brush

This angel is a resin material. Resin doesn't distress well. I could have it I wanted to paint it a darker color first, then apply vaseline in the area to remove paint, but I just wanted simple. I didn't want to distress and have the burgundy showing.

I decided to dry brush gold paint over the angel on raised areas.

Dry Brushing: dip your brush in the paint then wipe most of it off onto a paper towel. Then brush it on the angel. It took maybe 3 minutes to do this to the angel. I got the look I was after without distressing.

I love doing this. It's not perfect nor is it meant to be. It just touches the raised areas.

I'm so glad that I pulled her out of the donate box! What was i thinking!

  1. Lovely redo! The gold is perfectly done. I have had a heavy hand drybrushing before and your light touch was just perfect for her!

I love hearing from you!
