Long time no see! Yes, it's been a few months since I last published an installment of Saturdays on the Porch. It's good to be back.

It's been pretty quiet around here in recent months. I need to start back to painting.

We took a wonderful family trip to the Southwest. It was a first for all of us. It was such a wonderful area. I'll be working on a blog series on the trip. You can visit my Instagram to see the videos I have been sprinkling in for each stop along the way. One true highlight of the trip was meeting Kevin Costner…….swoon! He was staying at our hotel in Durango working on the Horizon movie series that starts later this month in theaters. We plan to see the movie as a group to support Kevin since we are close personal friends now. LOL!

This is my most recent thrifty makeover. This green on the wicker table is so pretty. I enjoy sitting here watching the birds with my morning coffee. It's nice to enjoy the early morning coolness with a cup of coffee.

I shared our summer front porch recently. I am loving the use of faux plants this year just on the covered porch. So much easier!!!

The Look

Linen Dress | Sandals | Hat | Bracelets

I love linen from Quince! I just love linen in general. I have several of their pieces. It is so light and cool. I got this dress last spring. I wear it both loose and belted. It comes in several colors. I am wearing a small which is a generous fit.

This color is from last year. They have many to select from. I am wearing a small. I have also worn it open with a tank top underneath.

I am wearing a medium in this blouse. I always read reviews to get sizing tips when ordering clothes. This was last summer.

Linen Blazer | Necklace | Bracelets | Similar Chicos Jumpsuit | Similar Heels

I am wearing a small in this linen blazer. I like the sleeves rolled a bit since the look is relaxed. It's great for chilly indoor spaces during summer.

We just celebrated our 20-year anniversary in our home. This is a video that I created for the milestone.

What I'm Reading

I love to read AND listen to books. If you are looking for a way to get more steps in with your walking…..listen to books! You will want to keep walking to listen. I also listen while doing chores around the house. I will use my earbuds while walking, While in the house I will use a Bluetooth speaker that I can carry around with me or our Alexa.

I read actual printed books as well as on Kindle. I prefer my Kindle, but it is nice to hold a real book occasionally.

I've had my Audible membership for a while, and LOVE it! It gives me one book credit per month.

Let me share with you how I read on Kindle and listen to books as well. Get yourself a library card!

Then add the LIBBY and HOOPLA apps to your phone.

I will typically check to see if a book is available there first before using my credit or buying. Using these 2 apps with your library card is FREE!!! I love FREE.

There may be a waitlist if it is a newer title or popular. That's ok. Sometimes the wait can be lengthy. If I'm not willing to wait, I will just purchase. If it is new or popular, you NEED to finish the book in the allowed checkout time. Sometimes you can renew, and sometimes you may have to get back in the queue. If that happens, when it is available again…..it will download where you left off.

Get in the habit of always carrying a book with you to get in a little extra time. That way if you are waiting at the doctor's office or to get your car serviced….you are prepared!

I am well on my way to reading 36 books this year. This is a combination of physical reading and Audible books. I created a list of 12 Must Reads that I am checking off. I recently completed an update of my first quarter reading list. Here are a few recent reads.

  • I just finished The Heiress by Rachel Hawkins yesterday. It is the assigned book club read through my local library system. It will be my second time attending. It is held at a local dog-friendly pub in Liberty, SC called Hops and Harvest.
  • A Little Life by Hanya Yanagihara. This book was recommended to me. It is LONG. I listened to this one. It is widely popular, but I had never heard of it. It is an excellent book, but I'll give you a few warnings. It is incredibly sad. It can be uncomfortable at times. The main characters are men who met in school and follow their lives especially one. Just a heads up if any of these are triggers for you. The book contains sexuality issues, depression, and severe abuse. It is not a lighthearted read.

This hardback copy of Swan Song just arrived. I can't wait to read it. It is bittersweet. Elin is one of my favorite authors. This is her last Nantucket beach read. She is retiring from beach reads.

What We've Bought

  • I discover a new clothing brand. I splurged on this sweater and I've been wearing it a lot. I've worn it with jeans, shorts and linen pants. I'd love to add one of these in early fall. Through my research, I think I will order the petite. It's a touch shorter and not as wide in the body.
  • I LOVE these linen blend shorts. They are longer and very flattering. They do say that they run large. I agree. I ordered an 8. They have loosened up a bit and a bit big. But I don't mind.
  • I ordered this sourdough bread starter. It is due to arrive on the 20th. I'll keep you posted.
  • Brushing my cat is a nightmare. I bought this brush and he did pretty well with a short session. This trimmer came in yesterday. It is the same one our vet used for hygiene shaves. We will see. It is quiet.
  • I ordered this birdfeeder for my husband. It is supposed to be squirrel-proof along with this tall shepherd's hook.
  • I am impressed with this patriotic bunting that I put on the porch this week. I can't wait to share it with you.

What Caught My Eye

I love to cook and try different recipes. This week we had Easy Flounder Francaise. I have printed 2 recipes from this site to try. This was truly a light and tasty dish. We had it with sauteed haricots verts.

You dip the flounder in a breading then dredge in an egg mixture.

Then saute on the stove and finish in the oven while making the sauce.

I used garlic instead of shallots. You do salt to taste. I would add more salt next time to the breading as well as sauce. The lemon flavor is very nice for the sauce.

I do recommend prepping all ingredients before starting including the green beans. Once you start, this comes together fast. You can find the recipe HERE. It's a keeper! Be sure to use the slider in the recipe to adjust the servings. I did 2. My piece of flounder was huge!!!! We had enough flounder left over for the next night. I did buy more flounder than what the recipe called for. I only planned green beans so that was my reasoning. It heated up beautifully for leftovers with a crispness on 380 for about 5 minutes in our air fryer.
