Today I'm sharing our family room's French Country Christmas mantel.

I really changed it up this year using the same supplies with the addition of new ribbon.

My hubby even lit the real wood burning fire for me mid-day to photograph the space.

In year's past, the garland was on top of the mantel. This is the first year for it to be on the front.

The garland is held with the same clear Command Hooks that I used in the fall.

I used the red upholstery tape and burlap ribbon. I purchased 20 yards of it online and I've been using it everywhere.  It is so inexpensive, too!

The upholstery ticking is rather stiff. To use it as a garland, I like to gather it every 12-15 inches and tie it with twine. This gives it a gathered look.

These gorgeous metal angels came from an after Christmas sale over 10 years ago. They are perfect for the mantel and a favorite of mine.

I really enjoy changing out the writing on my thrift store art turned chalkboard. I always freehand this board. I draw it first on paper. Then draw it with regular chalk. You can easily erase it if you have a mistake. Then I went over it with a chalk marker. It's much more vivid.

Olive buckets are handy for holding firewood.

Do you notice the Christmas tree?  We cut it the day after Thanksgiving, and still haven't been able to decorate it as a family yet. The plan is tonight! I'll be showing a larger home tour with more from the family room next week.

Merry Christmas!

  7. Christy, such a pretty mantel. I really love the herringbone brick pattern surrounding your fireplace. This looks like such a cozy place to curl up with a cup of hot chocolate and just gaze at the fire burning in the hearth. I don’t know how the garland looked on top of your mantel, but it is beautiful the way you hung it this year. I hope you don’t mind, I am creating a blog post of Christmas House Tours today, and I plan to share your mantel post and link back to this page, of course. Merry Christmas!
