What is the Pinterest Challenge?
Each month, we are given either a topic or a photo for inspiration. Think in terms of looking through Pinterest for inspiration. That is how Cindy gets inspired by the challenge. If it is photo inspiration, she visits the source and asks if they'd like to be our inspiration for the monthly challenge. It's that simple! It's such a fun post each month.
This month we are recreating a sweet spring tulip wreath featuring lush artificial tulips inspired by Krisiti from the lovely blog, Chatterfield Court. I have long been a follower of Kristi's beautiful blog. We have participated in several blog hops through the years. If you haven't visited, you are in for a treat!
If you are visiting from The Crowned Goat, welcome! CoCo has a gorgeous home. You are going to love how she refreshed an old spring wreath. Be sure to take a peek around her blog. I just love her style and she is the sweetest!
Easy DIY Spring Tulip Basket Front Door Wreath
A universal favorite spring flower is the tulip. Pink and white tulips are a personal pick for me.
A spring tulip wreath can be a very simple DIY project but can take an awful lot of tulips to cover a complete wreath form. I found that daunting. LOL
You could save on tulips and do half a wreath with a large bow on the other side.
I loved this wreath basket that I did a few years back. It held quite a few flowers and you could do something similar with this basket. Look for a basket with a narrower opening so you'll need fewer flowers.
I had been looking for a basket that was a perfect size for a front door wreath. It would be a simple spring wreath and would be a great candidate for changing out artificial flowers for the seasons.
My take on the simple tulip wreath is a variation using a basket.
Supply List
- door basket
- faux flowers like pink tulips
- floral foam
- ribbon (floral)
- ribbon (pink stripe)
- floral wire
- wire cutters
- door hanger
I am not confident that these tulips would withstand the elements, so be sure to use them in a well-covered area on your porch. If in doubt, use indoors.
Nothing says spring decor like bunnies and tulips. Real tulips can be tricky. I have had great success with the real deal from Trader Joe's, but I'd never attempt to use them in a wreath project. Artificial tulips are the way to go for this simple DIY wreath. Just be sure to hang in a dry place out of the elements.
I used ribbon as a wreath hanger and a command hook hung upside down on the backside of the door near the very top. If you go this route opt for a hanger that will blend in with your door. You could spray paint the Command Hook to match your door if necessary. My door will not close with a traditional door hanger.

The How-To Steps
STEP 1
Unpackage your tulips. Each pack comes with 2 bundles. I used 2 packs for a total of 4 bundles.
Inspect your basket! I am so pleased with this purchase. The basket hanger is so sturdy and well-made.
Step 2
Place some scrap paper to fill the bottom of the basket and to camouflage the green of the floral foam along the front of the basket. I used the Amazon mailer that the tulips came in.
Step 3
Add floral foam the the basket. Position it low enough to not be seen above the rim of the basket. I simply used a bread knife to cut it. You could use this handy foam knife if you do a lot of arranging.
Step 4
Start adding your faux tulips. I added mine along the outer edge first. Then fill in. You can easily bend the tulips to spill over the basket in areas.
Step 5
Add your bow with floral wire to the top of the basket.
Step 6
Loop a long run of ribbon through the hanger of the basket to hang over the door with a Command Hook like I did. You could skip this step if hanging on a regular door hanger. See several door hanger options listed below.
I just hung the wreath on Friday. This ribbon was used on the topiaries for my daughter's bridal shower over a year ago.
It was the perfect look for the baby shower I had for my daughter-in-law on Saturday. She is having a baby girl so it was so sweet as part of the party decor. Luckily for me, it works all spring! Baby Phoebe is due on March 31. We are so excited for our first grandchild.
What do you think about using a basket for something different? I like the look.
Birds in the spring looking to build a nest? I simply ball up a couple of these silver streamers and tuck them here and there. It helps to deter them. I may also add a couple of old golf balls.
Door Hanger Options
- Traditional Black Hanger
- White Over the Door Hanger (very interesting)
- Adjustable Wreath Hanger
- Heavy Duty Suction Cup Hanger
- Magnetic Wreath Hanger
- Command Hook (my exact one)

Lovely basket arrangement for the front door. I line all of my planters, arrangements with burlap.
Thank you and what a great idea to use burlap!
This flower basket is perfect for a front door. I love that color of tulips, and how special to use the same ribbon from family events. I had never heard of a foam knife! Great idea for floral arrangements.
