What is the Pinterest Challenge?
Each month, we are given either a topic or a photo for inspiration. Think in terms of looking through Pinterest for inspiration. That is how Cindy gets inspired by the challenge. If it is photo inspiration, she visits the source and asks if they'd like to be our inspiration for the monthly challenge. It's that simple! It's such a fun post each month.
This month we are recreating a lovely fall vignette featuring pumpkins and vintage decor inspired by Gloria Parker's 1830s home featured in The Cottage Journal.
If you are visiting from County Road 407, welcome! Cindy has a gorgeous home. You are going to love how she styled a warm autumn vignette.
Here is a collection of books you can purchase for your home decor needs.
Are you looking for more inspiration with books? Here is a blog post with lots of ideas.
The Elements
The inspiration photo is so pretty and unique for a vignette. Books really stand out to me here. Books are a favorite way to add height, color, and texture to our home. I use them quite frequently. You can find them in thrift stores and online.

MacKenzie Childs Vintage Fall Vignette | Pinterest Challenge
I took one look at the inspiration photo and knew that this area of our family room would be the perfect spot to create my version of the inspiration photo for this month's Pinterest Challenge.
Books
Books are such a fun way to decorate. I frequently “shop” our bookcase in my husband's study. You can see it decorated for Christmas HERE. I frequently remove book jackets when decorating if trying to match up the hardcovers. I have a drawer that I store them in to easily add them back later.
Book stacks add interest, height, and desired color to a look.
Instead of just stacking the books, they are fanned out slightly allowing a little step for a small pumpkin to rest.
Pumpkins
No traditional, fall vignette would be complete without a pumpkin or two or ten! Can you ever have too many pumpkins?
In the past, I have decorated our dining room table for Halloween with these Mackenzie-Childs pumpkins in black, white, and gold. It was a big hit with our family. This year I decided to use a few in the family room.
MacKenzie-Childs pumpkins have a vintage feel with a variation in colors. I also added some velvet pumpkins that I love using in our fall decor.
Floral
The Cottage Journal photo uses berries in a Tuscan jar. I decided to use the faux maple tree that I added to an aged copper pot. I already had this so I didn't need to go out hunting berries. I recently created a fall tablescape for the kitchen using a pair of these trees. It was such a fun look. You can see it on my Instagram.
Vintage Pictures/Photos
Using little vintage oils that I find on eBay is an unexpected treat. I have several that I use in vignettes. They add a pop of color and whimsy to an otherwise black and neutral look.
Tablecloth or Runner
Consider adding a bit of fabric in terms of a tablecloth, runner, scrap piece of fabric, or even a fall scarf softens the hard lines of the table and adds texture and pattern.
Mirror
The inspiration photo shows a corner of a mirror. This was my main reason for selecting this spot for the vignette. I adore how it turned out. With the blacks in the painted console table, it really works well together. It was fun giving this area of our family room a new look without spending any money. Shop your home…..you will be surprised with what you may come up with!
I hope you are inspired to recreate the inspirational photo look with us!
Up next on today's hop is my friend, Laura, from Decor to Adore. She has created a beautiful French-inspired vignette.
