Five Easy Ideas for Decorating a Fall Living Room

What do you call your gathering spot in your home where you maybe read or watch TV? I refer it to as something different frequently. I'll either say living room, family room, and frequently den. Our family room is one of my favorite rooms in our home to decorate this time of year. As the days grow shorter, we tend to gravitate here in the evenings before dinner.

The fall season is a fun time to warm up your color palette in your living room.

I have gone much simpler with my fall decor through the years. Last year was the first time that I decorated minimally. To me, it's all about cozying up the space for the season.

Here are 5 ways to add a touch of fall to your family room.

ONE – Natural Elements

Adding seasonal decor in the form of natural elements can be one of the most cost-effective ways to add a nod to the season if you stroll your yard for fresh flowers and greenery. Now is the perfect time to cut your hydrangeas as they start to change colors at the end of the season. This makes drying time so simple. If you store them well, you can enjoy them for several years.

Even branches of leaves look lovely in a vase for a very organic feel.

These hydrangeas from the yard, look so pretty on the coffee table in my blue and white ginger jar. The warm tones are lovely for the season.

Faux greens and florals have really come a long way in recent years.

I tend to go all faux on the mantel for ease. From a distance, it's hard to tell if something is faux or real. With the height of the space, it's just easier to style it and forget it for a while.

I added these beautiful stems last week. This is one bunch. It's a great value for what you get.

TWO – Texture & Pattern

Throw pillows or pillow covers are a favorite way to add cozy textures to your living space.

Patterned Pillow Cover | PIllow Inserts | Velvet Pillow Covers with color options

If you like to change pillows out with the seasons, pillow covers will be your friend. It makes storage so much easier. Invest in a nice pillow form and you are set.

Adding a cozy throw blanket in fall colors and textures like faux fur and plaids makes things very cozy.

Adding table runners to side tables and coffee tables is another simple way to add a touch of fall.

THREE- Lighting

The fall season along with shorter days means it is time for lamplight! I adore lamplight. I've made it a bit easier to enjoy lamplight by outfitting a couple of lamps with smart bulbs and plugs. It's a total game-changer.

Lamplight is an easy way to create instant ambiance.

Candlelight is another element of lighting to add to your home.

Brass Candlestick Set | Battery Operated Candles | Fall Stems | Vase | Book Set | Pumpkin

I love using these battery-operated candles on the mantel. Again, it's safer and makes it so much easier to light the space. These can be set with a timer or turned on/off with the handy remote. They also flicker like a real candle!

FOUR – Metals

Golden yellows are lovely in fall with earthy tones. A great way to add this is through metals like brass and antique brass. Their warm hues fell rich. Head to your local thrift stores to find a few brass candlesticks

Brass trays, bowls, and vases are also a lovely way to add a bit of a traditional feel.

FIVE – Seasonal Elements

This is where I add pumpkins, gords, and other seasonal elements.

I did keep it very simple with a sprinkling.

While real pumpkins and gords are amazing, I just don't have a good relationship with them here in the hot South.

It's hard to find pretty ones this early. If you do, they rot so quickly. I will add a couple of the real thing on the front porch later this season.

Jack-o-Lantern

If you can't find the color you are looking for, you can always paint your faux pumpkins. Many of mine have been painted through the years.

Homegoods is always a favorite spot for unique pumpkins.

I have had these gorgeous velvet pumpkins for years. They are favorites. Velvet pumpkins are pretty on their own grouped together or mixed along with other pumpkins.

This cut glass gourd is lovely paired with the heavy wood coffee table and brass tray.

I hope you have come away with a few fall decor ideas that you can incorporate into your home. Whether you are a lover of all things neutral or thrive on pops of color, I'm sure you will add that cozy touch to your home for the changing season.
