My friend Amber from Follow the Yellow Brick Home organized this fun, small tour for us. We are all sharing a few last-minute things from our Christmas Homes that we didn't get around to earlier in the month.

I had so many shots from my home tour earlier in the month that I really wanted to share. I am so glad that Amber gave us that little nudge to get a post out before the holidays.

Welcome to our Christmas Home!

I absolutely love our home at Christmas. This is our first year as empty nesters. Both of our kids got married a few months ago and moved out. Luckily, they both live within 30 minutes of us.

While I have scaled back on my decorating, I've still decorated the downstairs for all of the get-togethers that we have had during the season.

I didn't decorate upstairs at all this year.

No tour would be complete without Bentley in one or ten photos!

These are the ornaments that I collect for this tree.

Our foyer tree is a favorite. You can read all about its special collection of ornaments HERE.

The study rarely makes an appearance on the blog, but you can see all of the details in this year's tour!

The dining room got a slightly different look this year with collected thrift store villages painted white. You can see more of it HERE.

family room at Christmas

The first tree that you see here is our live tree. Each year we decorate a live tree in between the heart of our home, the kitchen and the family room.

disco ball christmas decor

Do you notice the fabulous disco ball? It was actually from a disco ball toy that Ashlyn had when she was little. It had a ball on each end of the dance party thing. You plugged it in and they'd play music and dance. One day it quit working. Before throwing it away, I pried the two balls off of it.

I kept one, and Ashlyn has one for her new home. I love using it at Christmas and in the winter.

christmas family room

I really don't use a lot of knick-knack type of things in my Christmas decor these days. I like to use regular decor and add greenery and ornaments to it. It's quick, easy, and just fits with our traditional style.

Next year, I hope to update our railing garland. This garland is 20 years old now. I've gone over the top with it, but in recent years, I just add some bows at points where it swags.

family room with colorful rug

Our rug is handmade wool and silk. We've had it for about 30 years now. It's a keeper. Since it is so busy, I decided to not add holiday pillows this year. I just used my regular pillows, and I like the restful feel that it brings us.

A new touch this year is in the secretary. Do you notice the little surprise in it?

The brass reindeer and sleigh belonged to my late inlaws. I enjoy using it in a new way each year.

secretary with christmas decor

I haven't been using my Dickens Village in recent years. I grew tired of displaying it.

This year, I saw some villages displayed in china cabinets, and a lightbulb went off. I no longer have a glass front china cabinet, but the secretary would make do.

I love it in here! I might just want to try to find a couple more of them now!

We love our perfectly imperfect live tree with our collected ornaments.

  1. Christy, it’s all exquisite. With our kids grown up (Liam graduates this year from HS and will be moving off to NY in the fall and my oldest son is going back to graduate school) I am also no longer really pulling out all the knick-knacks like I used to. I adore the simplicity of decorating with things I already have and tucking in treasured, vintage and simple Christmas touches just like you have. I hadn’t used my Putz village in a few years either but this year I discovered it looks beautiful behind the glass doors of the corner cabinet in my dining room. Your Dickens village looks perfect in the secretary and I think I would want to keep it out through early winter too.

Love the disco ball and your amazing tree. I am going now to check out study too!

Everything is gorgeous and I hope your family has a very Merry Christmas!

  2. Where have I been?? Your study is so amazing and the English Country decor is totally gorgeous!! Your Dickens Village looks perfect tucked away in your secretary! Your home is so lovely, have a wonderful Christmas Week!

  3. Christy, your home looks amazing and I always love to see sweet Bentley! Cute story on the disco ball. I’m sure Ashlyn appreciates it! I love your sparkly Christmas trees and the garlands look so elegant on the railings. You’d never know they were 20 years old…mine need to be replaced as well. Wishing you and your family a Merry Christmas!
    Cheers – Shelley

I love hearing from you!
