It's beginning to look a lot like fall here at our house.
I love fall….soon I'll be pulling out my boots and scarves.
The outdoor fire pit will get lots of weekend use on those chilly evenings.
Today I'm sharing my DIY fall wreath using materials from an old wreath. Change the look by using upholstery tape to add an additional layer of texture.
I knew that I wanted a new front door wreath this fall. I've been using the same one for about five years! I know…unheard of in blogland! I still liked it, but wanted a new look.
When I started inspecting it to see what I needed to purchase, I realized that I could really reuse it all.
Everything looked great with minimal fading.
Now…that excited me beyond words! My goal this fall was to really use what I had to decorate with the exception of purchasing a few real pumpkins!
Today is the start of a fun tour for you this week!
I would love for you to visit each of the other blogs who are participating with me
in the Festival of Fall, hosted by The Everyday Home blog and Barb Garrett.
Each day will be a different theme, and I am sure you will
love seeing all the great projects presented each day –
so please come back and see what's new.

I disassembled the wreath. When doing this, create piles of each floral piece grouped together. This makes creating the new wreath easier. They are grouped in this basket.
I decided to work outside on the wreath. It was a beautiful weekend!
I purchased a few mini grapevine and burlap pumpkins as well as a roll of wired burlap ribbon. I bought the huge roll of upholstery tape last year…..still using! I only ended up using part of the burlap wired ribbon ($5.99) and 3 of the grapevine pumpkins ($2.09 each) all from Hobby Lobby. Not bad for a “new” to me wreath!
You can still see the hot glue places where the items used to be. I put hot glue on one end of the upholstery tape and attached it to the backside of the wreath. Then simply wrap the desired amount. I decided to go with half.
Adhere the other end of the tape to the back of the wreath with hot glue. Hold in place until set.
Next I started my floral placement.
You don't have to be an official floral designer to do this…I'm not!
I didn't glue any of the picks. I just secured them within the grapevine.
The pumpkin was a little trickier.
Using these little green floral picks, I attached a longer piece of floral wire around it. I attached 3 of these through the back of the pumpkin. I was then able to wire it in 3 different areas to the wreath. It's not going anywhere!
I made a traditional bow for the wreath. If I want to make it a little fuller after the fact, I make these little loops attached to a floral pick and insert around the bow.
The reason that I wanted to add the upholstery tape is because I made two bows with it to go around the arch in the door. It really makes the look come together!
I am loving those little grapevine pumpkin picks. So easy to add to your existing wreaths!
I am so fortunate that the floral pieces still looked great. I created a new look to hopefully enjoy several more years with minimal money!
This is an old pic from my first year blogging, but here's the former wreath. I thought I had a better one so I didn't take an up close before!
I added these upholstery tape bows this year. These were the inspiration for the wreath update.
Extremely bright time of the day for photo taking! My fern will hold out until the first freeze.
I am going simple inside and out this year. I'll add a couple of fresh pumpkins here soon.
I hope you are inspired to use what you have in other ways this holiday season!

Beautiful porch decor for the holidays! I always want to re-do my wreaths, too! There are so many wonderful ideas out there, it is too difficult to just hang up the same wreath every year without updating it! You did a wonderful job, it would be a joy to step up to your front door!
