Creating a Cozy Fall Porch

Creating a Cozy Fall Porch

Hello, sweet friends! I hope you all are having a fabulous week! Can we all take a moment to celebrate the weekend we just had here in the south. We came into the weekend with scorching 98 degrees and woke to a glorious cloudy day Saturday with a high of 69! It was fabulous and amazing! I was totally ready to break out a parka……well not exactly. BUT I did celebrate by wearing boots to dinner for the first time.

This is the time of the year that we yearn for around here.

Today we have a treat for you….The Embracing Fall Tour hosted by my dear friend, Amber, from Follow the Yellow Brick Home

Our seasonal tours are always so inspiring. If you are stopping by from Marty over at A Stroll Thru Life welcome! Marty has such a beautiful and welcoming home.

Today I am sharing a few tips to create a cozy fall porch!

screened porch

This summer I added a lot of navy to the porch. Navy has really been my color lately. This summer I used navy and pinks. It was fun with the green cushions on the sofa.

Navy and pink just didn't do it for me for fall. I didn't want to spend much money if any on fall decor! I did something that I love to do…………

Shop your house!

I realize that you may not have a protected screened porch. Maybe you have a patio. It's still ok to shop your house and bring the indoors out for a cookout or get together.

I started looking in closets and the laundry room cabinets. The VERY first thing that I did was grab this matelasse coverlet. The hunter green cushions that I had made 20 years ago are just not my style any more, but ridiculously expensive to replace. This is an antique wrought iron couch that I adore, but not a buy off the shelf replacement cushion kind.

The queen size was perfect to cover this couch! I wrapped, tucked and stuffed until it looked just right. Now I love it again……simply with a coverlet that hadn't been used in several years! Go raid your closet and see what might work for you to cover a chair or couch.

The blue and white pillows were made this summer from a couple of tablecloths that I purchased at Tuesday Morning. I removed the other pillows and packed them away in the shed. These 2 ruffled pillows were in a closet. I brought them out here along with the Welcome Fall pillow that I made with Chalk Couture products.

I still need to repaint the thrift store table on the end. It's been duck egg blue for a very long time. Think I'll paint it a neutral darker gray. The coverlet allowed me to keep a neutral look with pops of blue.

mum

The space just called for pops of rusty red mums. I forgot that my mom gave me this antique bucket. I shopped the garage and found it in there. I had to add a couple of quart sized paint cans to elevate the mum.

I packed all of the summer decor away like the shells and driftwood along with more summery looking decor items.

I added a few of my painted faux pumpkins to the area….just a couple to say fall!

I removed the pink floral wreath that was on the wall ironwork and left it plain. I also changed out the pink runner for the neutral one. You can see the green cushions on the matching chairs on this end of the porch.

fall wreath

I removed the coastal thrift store needlework wall art and borrowed the front porch wreath. I love the wreath so much here that I plan to make another for this very spot. The oval size is perfect here.

You'll find my hubby and me out here working many days. It's the perfect spot for working on the blog, ready and conversation.

I recently shared this tablescape on the other side of the sitting area! You'll find a convenient list of this year's fall posts below!

  7. I enjoy seeing your porch in any season and I’m so glad that you finally got a taste of cool fall weather in SC so that you could enjoy being out there. You are so smart to shop your house for things to use to decorate rather than run out and buy something new. Covering your green cushion with the queen size coverlet worked perfectly to give you a neutral look for fall. I’m glad you thought to use the galvanized bucket that your mother gave you. It looks great with a rust colored mum. Here’s to many upcoming cool fall days to enjoy your porch!
