I hope you have had a wonderful week. We've had a bit of a cool spell here in the south. It's supposed to warm up again next week.

Y'all this silver hair thing is at a bad stage. I'm seeing hats in my future, possible temporary color or giving in.

I started painting again the week. I'm working in the guest bedroom. It's just too dark and drab these days. I'm priming all of the woodwork right now to paint Simply White. I am not sure about the wall color yet. I'll either go with the SImply White or Alabaster. The white walls will really brighten the room with the black bed, dark rug, and painted armoire. It's going to take some time to get it done but can't wait to share it with you.

Thursday my husband and I went dresser shopping for Woods. Now that he is back home, he needs a larger piece for his clothes. We had a fun day!

I ordered this top back in 2019 and still love it! It's a great Amazon find and comes in several colors including long-sleeved options.

FIT TIP: I am wearing a medium in the blouse, and 8 in the raw edge jeans and sized up to an 8.5 in the sandals from my typical 8.

We discovered a fabulous local store that I know we will go back to in the future. They have a Facebook page if you want to check them out. They are in Greenville, SC.

We took a lunch break and visited our local bakery called Strossner's Bakery and Deli. It was so good. I had the chicken pot pie and Max had the quiche.

My husband was such a trooper. We went to 4 furniture stores!

Get this…..would you believe that we ultimately decided to save about $600 and go with a $309 dresser from Facebook Marketplace that's from the 1950s. We literally spent all day in Greenville looking.

Ashlyn flew to Florida this morning with her boyfriend to visit his father for the week. When she returns, we are paying her to strip and sand it. She's a pro at that after completing the armoire. I'm pretty excited about the piece.

We are going to bleach the wood and leave it in its natural state using the original hardware. It's a classic design made of REAL wood!

family photo

Last Sunday, my mom came over for a wonderful Mother's Day dinner. We didn't lift a finger. Max, Woods, and Ashlyn planned, shopped, cooked, and did all the dishes! We had small fillet mignon, grilled shrimp, twice-baked potatoes, salad, and key lime pie! If you have Sam's Club, they are wonderful twice baked potatoes that they make there. Publix has an amazing Key Lime Pie to get in a pinch when you don't have time to make my homemade Lemon Meringue Pie

My dress is from last summer from Amazon. It is short so be careful bending over! I love it, but really just wear it as a casual at-home dress. I wear it a lot. Remember that I prefer dresses over shorts. I am wearing a medium. I really need to get these sandals in some other colors. I wear them all the time. They are very comfy. Size up 1/2 a size!

tacos

Once per month, I hire Ashlyn to make and photograph one of our recipes for the blog. We LOVE tacos around here. I am not talking about your traditional ground beef taco kit. Nothing wrong with those. She made our steak tacos with raddish and avocaco salsa. It will be coming to the blog next week!

taco holders

It gave us a chance to use these new taco holders. Where have these been all my life! It makes fixing your taco and eating them so much easier and neater. This is a fabulous Amazon find!

woman

This week I went for a 9-month post-surgery check-up with my dermatologist at the skin cancer center. He was very pleased with how the scar is looking and doesn't see any new visible growth. I had to go in makeup-free so I thought I'd share a photo with you of the scar.

I drew a black line so you could get an idea of the scar line.

He suggested that maybe in September, I have a laser procedure to remove the redness caused by the broken capillaries around it. He said that would not go away. I really don't like having to keep heavily covering up the redness with makeup.

I've been using this tinted sunscreen with this concealer lately. I really need to cover it a bit more for photographs because the redness isn't covering enough, but I love this tinted sunscreen. I've been alternating between this and this to treat the scar.

What I'm Reading

I'm almost done with book 3 of the Elin Hilderbrand Series, What Happens in Paradise. I have really enjoyed it! Have you read anything great lately? I'd love to hear about it!

  1. Your pink top and white jeans are so cute! Those tacos look delicious, they remind me of some of the Hello Fresh meals we’ve tried that are so good and have some kind of homemade salsa/relish with fresh produce like tomatoes, cucumbers, onions, etc. cut up in lime juice. Don’t give up on your gray! I know it’s hard when it gets to that stage, but so worth it! I spend most of my time at home (and it was during shutdown) so I toughed it out, but my hair dresser said you can use Demi-color (not permanent) on the gray to help it blend. Or try one of the spray or brush in color touch ups. I used to use one by Madison Reed (when I still colored and needed a little touch up) that was like a giant compact of eyeshadow with a brush. I’m sure your hairdresser can give you some different option, maybe even adding highlights to the brown part. My husband is fair skinned and has had to have skin cancers removed from his ear twice, and others burned off of his face at dermatologist visits. Glad you are okay!

    1. Thanks so much!!! That salsa sounds great with tomatoes. Yummy!! I’m may have to look into that demi-color you mentioned plus the powder. Thanks so much for the encouraging words. I’m still hanging in there with it. I wish I had just done this much sooner during quarantine.

  2. Happy weekend, Christy! First, I love your new top. It’s so cute! Second, when my roots start showing, I use a Loreal spay root coverup that I buy at Walmart and it works like a charm. That might be a quick fix for now to try. Third, I hope that Ashlyn has a great time in Florida. Fourth, I loved that Elin Hinderbrand series. Fifth, I am so glad that the dermatologist is please with your surgery spot.

    1. Thanks so much, Paula! I may have to give that root coverup a try during this transition period. I’m still so on the fence about going gray. One day I’m all about it then I’m not. I will say that my hair has thickened tremendously and so much healthier with this no coloring break. I hope you are doing well. You look amazing. So glad your radiation treatments are complete.

  3. Don’t give up on the hair growing out. Mine was similar in color to yours. For my last coloring I used a high lift lighter brown that helped diminish the grow out and went from there. It worked and I am ever so grateful to be sporting my white/some gray hair now!

    1. Thanks so much for encouraging. The Instagram photo of the girl with long gray hair is inspiration. Maybe I should look into something like that the lighter color you mentioned. I feel like I will love it when done. It’s just at that awkward stage. I don’t mind it until I see photos. Lol!

I love hearing from you!
