Saturdays on the Porch

I hope and pray that if you were in the path of the hurricane, you are safe. It is tragic and heartbreaking. The devastation is unbelievable.

This week we've enjoyed cooler temps which is much appreciated. Last week, when I photographed the fleece top on the first day of fall….. it was 94 degrees!

Yesterday, I wore a sweatshirt for real! It has cooled off so much.

Sully, the kitten, is doing so well. He is precious. I got to see him Wednesday. Ashlyn brought him by after his vet check. They were able to give him his first round of shots with the exception of feline leukemia. They wanted to wait on that one for now. His one eye looks so much better since they switched to a combination of steroid and antibiotic eye drops. We are still praying that he doesn't have to lose that eye. We think he can see shapes and movement from the eye.

Ashlyn and Tim started him a TikTok account if you'd like to follow him.

The Look

I've had my eye on a Dudley Stephens fleece top for several years now but just couldn't justify the price. My hubby surprised me with this. We were watching TV one night. He said he was ordering himself a sweater and wanted to know if I wanted anything. I jokingly said, sure! I laughed and shot him the link. He actually ordered it! I was not expecting that.

He joked and said he was done with the crazy insane wedding payments, so we deserved a little treat. We laughed!

Seriously, wedding costs are no joke! Luckily, our venue drafted it in monthly payments over 10 months.

I absolutely LOVE this fleece. It can easily be dressed up or down.

FIT TIP: I am wearing a true-to-size medium. I have the Amazon flats in 3 colors. Size up 1/2 a size. My jeans are no longer available. I've had them for several years.

The high, bulky neck of my fleece may not be for everyone. I am personally cold-natured, so I love the neckline. I do like it better with my long hair pulled up.

Here are a few alternatives!

Tretorn Sneakers

Sneakers these days are so on trend and acceptable even with dresses! I've never been a sneaker person except when exercising.

This past year, I have accepted the trend. I love the comfort level. I rarely wear heels except for church or events.

The sneakers are very comfy. I would not exercise in them. They are more of a fashion sneaker.

FIT TIP: The sneakers are true to size. My older Chico's denim top is a size 1.

What I'm Reading

I love to read AND listen to books. If you are looking for a way to get more steps in with your walking…..listen to books! You will want to keep walking to listen. I also listen while doing chores around the house. I will use my earbuds while walking, While in the house I will use a Bluetooth speaker that I can carry around with me or our Alexa.

I read actual printed books as well as on Kindle. I prefer my Kindle, but it is nice to hold a real book occasionally.

I've had my Audible membership for a while, and LOVE it! It gives me one book credit per month.

Let me share with you how I read on Kindle and listen to books as well. Get yourself a library card!

Then add the LIBBY and HOOPLA apps to your phone.

I will typically check to see if a book is available there first before using my credit or buying. Using these 2 apps with your library card is FREE!!! I love FREE.

There may be a waitlist if it is a newer title or popular. That's ok. Sometimes the wait can be lengthy. If I'm not willing to wait, I will just purchase. If it is new or popular, you NEED to finish the book in the allowed checkout time. Sometimes you can renew, and sometimes you may have to get back in the queue. If that happens, when it is available again…..it will download where you left off.

Get in the habit of always carrying a book with you to get in a little extra time. That way if you are waiting at the doctor's office or to get your car serviced….you are prepared!

It was my goal to read more than 12 books last year, and I completed that task. Check out that list which has been updated with my thoughts on the books. Here is my list for 2024. This is the list of definites for the year. I have a goal of 36 books this year. I will sprinkle in lots of audiobooks as well.

  • I started Doctor Zhivago on Audible. I can tell the writing is good. I'm about 4 hours in. Lots of characters, but I'm determined to finish! I think I may rent the movie tonight and watch it. I think it will help with the book. Update….I don't think I can make it through the book. LOL! So many characters. I still haven't watched the movie. Will go on and do that first.
  • Yes, I've started my first Christmas book of the season, The Christmas Boutique. I didn't realize that it was a series! I'm following along fine. I would have never known.
  • The Thursday Murder Club (This is a fun book)
  • Just finished this with my Audible credit- Counterfeit ( I love Audible…I walk and do chores listening to books) This book gets your attention immediately. I love it!
  • I just finished the Seven Husbands of Evelyn Hugo. It grabs you in immediately!!! I loved this book!
  • I finished reading Wrong Place, Wrong Time. I really enjoyed this one! It's such a unique storyline.

  1. Glad to hear the kitten is improving, and just wanted to let you know I love your hair! Happy October!

  2. Your hair is getting there. Don’t give in! The silver around your face complements your eyes and complexion. You might consider a bobbed hair trim if you need a change till it grows out completely. Just say’in. My 2 cents. Love & Blessings, Sharon

I love hearing from you!
