Saturdays on the Porch #49

I hoped to have a relaxing week after the whirlwind wedding week.

That didn't happen! I had many blog commitments this week so it was busy.

Plus we have the kitten we are caring for until Tim and Ashlyn return from their honeymoon on Tuesday.

Today I will share kitten updates and a bit from the wedding. Then I am heading outside to scrub the summer grime from our outdoor patio cushions using this method.

This Week on the Blog

The Wedding

Last week was crazy insane and magical at the same time.

getting pedicure

Last Friday morning Ashlyn and I had a day of pampering.

We started out with manicures and pedicures.

Let's start by saying this was a huge thing for me. I DO NOT get pedicures. I have very ticklish feet. I can't stand my feet being touched.

I also do my own manicures. I don't have the patience to waste so much time driving and waiting.

Let me just say that I survived and it was fabulous.

Don't get me wrong, that pedicure was pure torture, but my feet haven't looked that great in a long time. I just may have to get them occasionally now.

We did the same….pale pink toenails and french manicure gel polish on our nails.

I love a salon gel polish manicure. It lasts so long, but my nails pay for it later.

mom and daughter getting hair done
No makeup, but big smiles and big hair!

Afterward, we went to Sam's and Walmart to pick up food for the bridal luncheon on Saturday for the girls while they had their hair and makeup done. We were at Cotton Rouge in Greenville from 9 am – 2 pm. It went by fast and was so much fun! It was great having the food.

After we picked up the food, we had to rush to our hair appointments. We took a large cooler for the food.

The rehearsal and dinner were later in the evening. We decided to get blowouts and our hair curled. This would give it tooth for wedding day updos.

When we got home, we both did our own makeup for the rehearsal dinner.

Food Served

  • mimosas
  • water jug with spout
  • Turkey pinwheels tray (Sam's)
  • Greek Yogurt and granola
  • freshly cut fruit tray
  • Chex Mix
  • Assorted mini-muffins (Walmart)

I'll be sharing a wedding series very soon!

bride with her bridesmaids

What a lovely group of friends! Big tip! Always have bridesmaids send you a photo of their dress as soon as they get it to avoid any mishaps. We didn't think to do this. As a result, one of the girls had the wrong color dress.

Luckily the 2 girls were close in size. We had her switch dresses with the maid of honor. We did a little DIYing on the other girl and you would have never known! It all worked out because you frequently see the maid of honor wearing a special dress.

After the ceremony and all photos, the girls changed their dresses back to be comfortable during the fun reception! It looked like it was meant to be.

Ashlyn's Dress is Essense of Australia and mine is Sachin & Babi

Here is a quick cell photo of us before the wedding. We were standing in a storage area with the bridesmaids hiding Ashlyn right before Tim walked through to the front porch. They did a first look. This keeps the guests from having to wait too long after the ceremony to get the reception started.

I'll be sharing more details soon! I've got to get photos from other people. I made a conscious effort to stay in the moment and didn't have my cell out. Now I'm regretting not having photos!

I adore these photos! Look how happy they are!

I can't wait to get professional video and photography!

Sully the Kitten

Sully is doing well and is now 5 weeks old.

Late last Thursday when we were going over details with the little girl from next door that was going to take care of the pets Friday evening and most of the day on Saturday for the wedding, we noticed a significant change in Sully's good eye.

I use this blanket daily! The pets love it also! I use the 60×80 size as a throw.

Max took him to the vet Friday morning while Ashlyn and I were doing our pampering for the wedding.

His eye had perforated which meant that it had died. We had no choice, it would have to be surgically removed or it could kill him.

The vet did feline leukemia and feline HIV tests before proceeding. He was negative on both.

The eye removal would be $300-500.

Tim and Ashlyn had to make a decision.

They already planned on keeping him, but being blind and the expense might be too much for a young married couple to take on.

There was no question….he was their baby and they would do what needed to be done.

We've added a rug to his play area. It helps his toys from getting away from him plus outlines his play area for him. We had all of this stuff from when Jack was a kitten. The little tower is actually used in our bedroom. The little angled scratcher is perfect for kittens.

Monday morning he had his eye inoculation surgery. It was $525.

It's heartbreaking because he was already blind in the bad eye. Now he is completely blind.

He finished up his round of antibiotics that cleared up the respiratory infection. The eye issues are the result of a respiratory infection. It moves to the eyes of young kittens. Read about how we found him HERE.

He is on pain meds with antiinflammatory orally this week. The vet changed the antibiotic eye ointment to antibiotic eye drops. Right now we are trying to save the other eye. The vet feels that it will die and have to be removed as well. We will find out when he gets back to remove stitches and get his first round of kitten shots.

Continued prayers, please!

Just know that if Tim and Ashlyn decided not to keep the kitten……we would have. We adore this little fellow. In the reels section, you can see adorable video footage of him from Wednesday.

We are teaching him and guiding him without eyesight.

Amazon Blouse

I wore this outfit the day of the wedding to the historic house where the makeup artist had her business. They only do event looks and such. It is not a hair-cutting salon. I'll have more to share on that soon.

I'd had my eye on this blouse for a while and thought it would be perfect the day of. It was best to wear a neutral color for them to do your makeup + the button-up would make it easy to not mess up my hair when changing into my MOB gown.

This blouse comes in many sizes and colors.

FIT TIP: I am wearing a medium in the blouse. Could have worn a small, but I like the look and feel of the medium. It doesn't cover your bum. I did not find the white see-through at all. Size down in the jean. I am wearing a size 6. They have stretch. They were too long on me and looked bulky rolling so I cut them off to above the ankle with scissors. It will be a good height with booties this fall and winter. The sandals are close to being sold out. I recently purchased them on clearance.

What I'm Reading

I love to read AND listen to books. If you are looking for a way to get more steps in with your walking…..listen to books! You will want to keep walking to listen. I also listen while doing chores around the house. I will use my earbuds while walking, While in the house I will use a Bluetooth speaker that I can carry around with me or our Alexa.

I read actual printed books as well as on Kindle. I prefer my Kindle, but it is nice to hold a real book occasionally.

I've had my Audible membership for a while, and LOVE it! It gives me one book credit per month.

Let me share with you how I read on Kindle and listen to books as well. Get yourself a library card!

Then add the LIBBY and HOOPLA apps to your phone.

I will typically check to see if a book is available there first before using my credit or buying. Using these 2 apps with your library card is FREE!!! I love FREE.

There may be a waitlist if it is a newer title or popular. That's ok. Sometimes the wait can be lengthy. If I'm not willing to wait, I will just purchase. If it is new or popular, you NEED to finish the book in the allowed checkout time. Sometimes you can renew, and sometimes you may have to get back in the queue. If that happens, when it is available again…..it will download where you left off.

Get in the habit of always carrying a book with you to get in a little extra time. That way if you are waiting at the doctor's office or to get your car serviced….you are prepared!

It was my goal to read more than 12 books last year, and I completed that task. Check out that list which has been updated with my thoughts on the books. Here is my list for 2024. This is the list of definites for the year. I have a goal of 36 books this year. I will sprinkle in lots of audiobooks as well.
