When my friend, Amber, from Follow the Yellow Brick Home asked me to participate in the Vintage Home Christmas Tour, I knew that Southport, NC would be a treat to share!

Welcome if you are stopping by from The Tattered Pew.

I recently shared our Christmas Home Tour HERE.

Last weekend, we had the opportunity to go by our beach house and stay overnight.

It was a very quick stay of fewer than 24 hours.

It was the perfect night to be there! In fact, I wish that we had come the night before.

The entire weekend was WINTERFEST!

Of the 34+ years that I have been going to Southport, I've never been at Christmas.

It was so charming and perfect. I guess we always think of going to the mountains around here, and not our beach home in December.

We had to go that way for a business trip and decided to pop in for the night.

We were there for the Annual Flotilla. I shared it on my Instagram stories and saved it as a highlight. You can see it HERE.

Boats join a contest decorating their boats complete with festive lights. It happens at night so all is aglow. They man their boats along the waterfront for all to see. It was so much fun!

We had a nice stroll from where we parked to the waterfront, and I snapped a few photos along the way.

I was in pure house stalking Heaven!

I was so mesmerized by the charm of the historic homes at Christmas that I woke up early the next morning (Sunday) and snapped tons of daylight photos around downtown.

I took so many photos that I have decided to break this tour into 3 blog posts……there are that many photos!!! Today you have landed at ……

Part 1

Good news…..I already have all of the photos edited and ready to go. I'll be sharing all parts over the next few days.

Since our adventures started at night, I will start with evening photos.

This was the first house that we came to as we parked to walk to the waterfront for the flotilla. I hadn't planned on taking nighttime photos of the houses, but on a whim pulled out my iPhone.

The houses were just magical at night. I had to snap quickly because we had to get a viewing spot on the water.

I love all the dripping lights and hanging ornaments.

Let me back up just a bit and tell you a little about Southport, NC. You can read the complete history HERE.

christmas house

The town started out as Smithville in 1792. In an effort to create a southern port, it was renamed Southport in 1887. It sits at the mouth of the Cape Fear River…..yep….that movie!

In fact, many movies and TV shows have been filmed here.

Isn't this the coolest doorway entrance!!!

We watched a lot of Safe Haven being filmed. In fact, I have a blog post with photos HERE and HERE.

While we were there, Mel Gibson was in town filming a new movie and just last night Kevin James was on our island of Oak Island. I guess he is working there as well.

Many compare it to New England's coastal towns.

I never tire of strolling down these streets each and every summer.

It has become a tradition.

The churches of Southport are lovely at night.

Also on OSH!  Saturdays on the Porch #32

As we took the short drive back to our cottage on Caswell Beach we passed by the Oak Island Lighthouse.

lighthouse

We've never seen it with lights! It was completed in 1958. It replaced The Cape Fear Light built in 1903 which replaced Old Baldy built in 1817.

At the end, I'll share links to other tours from Southport and Bald Head Island.

Up next on the tour is The Ponds Farmhouse.

Be sure to subscribe to the blog so you won't miss the upcoming Southport Christmas posts. We will be touring many more homes during the daylight hours. They are gorgeous!!!

  4. Christy,
I loved seeing all the beautiful homes in Southport lit for the holidays. We have a tiny cottage just a ferry ride away from here and visit often but it’s usually day time. So fun doing these tours together.
